We were planning for our lunar orbital mission "dearMoon" to take place in 2023, but seems like it will take a little longer.
Disappointed, but unsurprised, given the challenges facing the Starship/Super Heavy programme.

Will anyone even land on the moon, in a Starship variant, before 2030?

A better question would be (with apologies to Neil Armstrong), "Will anyone return to Earth alive after landing on the moon, in a Starship variant, before 2030?"

Remember, it is not just landing, but getting home too!

The dearMoon project has been cancelled.

From Yusaku Maezawa (via X):

It is unfortunate to be announcing that 'dearMoon', the first private circum-lunar flight project, will be cancelled. We thank everyone who has supported us and apologize to those who have looked forward to this project.

I signed the contract in 2018 based on the assumption that dearMoon would launch by the end of 2023. It’s a developmental project so it is what it is, but it is still uncertain as to when Starship can launch.

I can’t plan my future in this situation, and I feel terrible making the crew members wait longer, hence the difficult decision to cancel at this point in time.

I apologize to those who were excited for this project to happen.

I'm not surprised by the demise of dearMoon but am glad that MZ did reach space, on Soyuz MS-20, back in 2021.

I hate to say "I told you so" BUT I did — this always reeked of social media BS to me. My original post from 2020:
Although I find the idea of flying a group of artists around the Moon a very interesting and noble concept, at the moment this just feels like everything that’s wrong with the social media generation. They are going to be waiting a long, long time for this to happen - if it ever does!
