SpaceX to launch EchoStar 23A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket will deliver EchoStar 23, a communications satellite, to a geostationary transfer orbit (GTO). EchoStar Corp. is a global provider of satellite and video delivery solutions. SpaceX is targeting launch from Pad 39A at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida during a two and a half hour launch window opening on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at 1:34 a.m. EDT (0534 GMT). Satellite deployment will take place approximately 34 minutes after launch. A backup launch window opens on Thursday, March 16, at 1:35 a.m. EDT (0535 GMT). The EchoStar 23 mission will be SpaceX's second launch from 39A. SpaceX will not attempt to land Falcon 9's first stage after launch due to mission requirements. |

SpaceX's Falcon 9 lifted off at 2 a.m. EDT (0600 GMT) on Thursday (March 16) from Pad 39A at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. From SpaceX on Twitter: Main engine cutoff and stage separation confirmed. Second stage engine burn underway.Second stage engine has cutoff as planned. Second stage and satellite now in coast phase. Final second stage engine cutoff nominal, preparing to deploy satellite. Successful deployment of EchoStar XXIII to a Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit confirmed. |

No, the weight of Echostar 23 required all of the Falcon 9's propellant to reach the desired orbit. As such, the booster was not equipped with grid fins or legs. |
