This old piece of space junk got more publicity in the press than the Messenger flyby of Mercury or the Cassini flyby of Epimetheus and Titan.

...but maybe it helps to get more people interested in spaceflight events, what kind ever.

New shots from Voerde, Koeln and Koblenz.

Today the bird arrived at its final destination Speyer. This marks the end of the transport at water. Tomorrow, the prototype shuttle will moved the last few kilometers by special trucks from the ponton ship in the harbour to the Technik Museum Speyer.

For those in Germany or being able to capture the German documentary channel "Phoenix" by satellite or cable: there is a documentary on Buran tonite:

Das Sowjetraumschiff auf dem Rhein
Der Weg der "Buran" von Rotterdam nach Speyer
Mittwoch, 16.04.2008
Phoenix.

Buran is easier to spell than Epi-what.

Also, the event takes longer than this encounter.

And last, but not least, the encounter WAS actually covered prominently in German media, even though Epi-what is not German and Speyer is.

Of course, you can try to get another Buran to the museum in the Cinquantenaire, and we'll see what coverage it gets. Alas, this won't happen.
