Great crewpicture. Our Dutch astronaut Andre Kuipers looks like a real pirate. How much chance is there to get this poster signed by the entire crew, and what would be the best way to try? |

Look closely and check out all of the jewelry... Burbank's mission patches, a Soyuz rocket, and I believe that's Ham on the left side. Funny thing is, Burbank actually reminds me more of Jack's father (Keith Richards) in this photo. If you want to have some fun, try counting all of the "XXX's" hidden throughout. I also caught that face reflected in Robonaut's visor... I would guess that is the artist (?) |

Close... that appears to be Gordo (Ham was a chimpanzee). |

I thought it was Miss Baker, Robert. Are you sure it's Gordo?I always leave a banana on Miss Baker's tombstone at Space Camp...it's one of many traditions we Campers carry on. |

You're right, it is Miss Baker. For some reason, I had always associated this photo with Gordo (even before it was used to illustrate the Wikipedia article about him). |

That's truly original. I suppose Yelena Serova could have been Elizabeth Swann - 'ello poppet - if she ever gets assigned. |

Yeah. Dan Burbank could lend her his mascara. |

Of course, this doesn't end the debate: How do you pronounce 'Caribbean'? Kaar-uh-be-ann or Kuh-rib-bein? |

Yes, that is me reflected in the Robonaut visor (I wonder how that happened). Check out Dan's eyes to see the Expedition 30 crew patches.Six costume changes and six individual portraits in under an hour. Devin Boldt was the NASA photographer. I colorized the two jackets and Dan's shirt to match the movie poster. All the costumes are just mixed and matched from Pirate and RenFest costumes I had at home. The only real sword is Don Pettit's Samurai sword that I bought years ago from a sword dealer... |

All the beards and long hair were hand drawn Photoshop too.As far as the monkey, who knows. I googled "1st monkey in space" and used the highest resolution image I could find. Some of the web pages say it is Gordo and some say it is Miss Baker and some say Able... that was 50 years ago. It was a photo of a squirrel monkey sitting on a Jupiter model and I flipped him to make him fit on the shoulder, but left him black and white for nostalgic reasons... |

The Astronaut Office and Expedition 30 crew requested some changes be made to the poster. Here is the new, final version. Click here to enlarge (2.07 mb jpg). |

Was there a reason those changes were made? It's interesting seeing the versions side by side. |

On the revised poster, why the coast guard helicopter and the two jets were added? What do they represent with pirates? |

Dan Burbank flew helicopters in the Coast Guard so that is why that one is there plus you a have a MIG and a T-38 for the others. Pilots over. |

I have a few of the SFA posters. They are nice up close. Kids thought they were awesome when I did a space exploration lesson to 1st through 3rd graders. A typical standard photo would not have captured there attention. I hope all crews will continue to let people use their inagination and create thes types of posters. |
