From my late Dad's audio cassette archives, here are NBC News anchor, John Chancellor, and veteran space correspondent, Roy Neal (both unfortunately deceased), offering a retrospective of the U.S. manned space program. This broadcast was on the occasion of the Skylab 4 (Carr/Gibson/Pogue) splashdown, 8 February 1974.(RealAudio format, 2.16 mB) http://members.aol.com/smokymountainrr/chan_neal.rm My apologies for the audio quality, but Dad's mono cassettes ARE 33-year old originals. They have been stored at his house in Claxton Fruit Cake boxes all this time. Hey, whatever works, right?! Enjoy. [Edited by Joe Holloway (February 24, 2007).] |

Here's a bonus cut from Florida's Space Coast that will make you hungry (WAV format): http://members.aol.com/smokymountainrr/bakery_jingle.wav I sure do miss original radio jingles. Breakfast, anyone? [Edited by Joe Holloway (February 24, 2007).] |

Thanks for this slice of history, Joe! It's interesting that the Claxton Fruit Cake box survived longer than the fruit cake itself. That must be a first! ------------------ b i l l |

Thank you very much for posting that -- and as you discover more, I hope you will keep us posted. I've often wanted to go back in time with a VCR and a truckload of videotapes and capture this stuff as it aired.... jodie |

I taped John Chancellor's commentary of the Apollo 17 launch - should get it onto CD, hopefully the cassette tape still plays. | |
