Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of being interviewed by Michael Haggerty for Houston Matters, a daily public radio show about "the people, places, issues, and ideas that define Greater Houston."You can can listen to our conversation here. The segment, "Collecting space memorabilia is about the story even more than the object" aired live on Thursday (Feb. 20). While fewer than a thousand people have ever been to outer space, they've brought up and carried back a whole lot of stuff. Those items sometimes end up in museums, and other times they become space memorabilia that space enthusiasts and collectors seek out, buy, and sell — sometimes for a lot of money.Houstonian Robert Pearlman owns quite a few examples of such objects and runs collectSPACE, a website dedicated to the world of space artifacts and memorabilia. In an interview with Houston Matters producer Michael Hagerty, Pearlman talked about some of the items in his collection, what makes an item of space memorabilia worth a lot of money, and how to tell if something is authentic. | |
