Sweet launch system: Celebrity chef Duff Goldman makes NASA SLS-shaped cake

NASA's Space Launch System (SLS) was not the only mega-moon rocket to recently roll out at the agency's Florida spaceport — albeit the other was considerably smaller and much more tasty.

Just one day after the full-size SLS, together with its Orion spacecraft, arrived back on the launchpad for its next attempt at beginning the Artemis I mission, did a scaled down (and sugared-up) version of the same rocket debut at the nearby Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.

Perseverance pastry: Celebrity chef Duff Goldman makes Mars rover cake

As it turns out, it takes a good deal of planning, patience and, well, Perseverance, to create a cake in the shape of a NASA Mars rover.

Just ask celebrity chef Duff Goldman, whose pastry-formed model of the space agency's six-wheeled Perseverance rover made its debut Friday night (Nov. 3) at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in Florida.

Chef Duff Goldman spins up moon-shaped cake for NASA 'Taste of Space'

Duff Goldman has given a surprising amount of thought to baking cakes in outer space.

The founder of the Baltimore bake shop Charm City Cakes who rose to fame on the Food Network show "Ace of Cakes," Goldman now has for a third year brought a space-themed cake to the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex's "Taste of Space: Celebrity Edition" culinary evening. A self-professed "life-long science and space nerd," Goldman described the annual event in Florida as one of his most unique experiences.
