The Houston Astros are celebrating their home city's connection to space exploration with a new uniform inspired in part by NASA's astronaut wear and materials.
The Major League Baseball team debuted their new Nike City Connect uniforms on Sunday (April 10), ahead of the players wearing them for the first time when they face the Los Angeles Angels on April 20. The Astros will then don the "Space City"-themed garbs for their Monday home games at Minute Maid Park, including "NASA Night" on July 16.

A bit old to rock a jersey anymore, but I couldn't resist picking up the Astros' "Space City"-themed New Era 9TWENTY hat.
This tag was a nice touch.

Johnson Space Center center director Vanessa Wyche is throwing out the first pitch tonight (May 2), the first Monday night game where spectators will see the Astros in their new Space City jerseys.
The Astros will wear their symbolic space-inspired uniforms for each Monday home game, as well as the NASA Night game slated for Saturday, July 16.
Moreover, throughout the season, Johnson's External Relations Office is continuing its efforts to work with the hometown heroes to highlight human space exploration, partners, future exploration, and significant accomplishments and contributions to science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or STEM.

The Houston Astros debuted their Nike "City Connect 2.0" line of "Space City" alternate uniforms today (March 19), which they will wear at their Monday night home games this season (starting on March 31).
About the new look...
A Cap Made for Houston
Our hat logo combines several elements together to form a new, futuristic take on our traditional star. At the core sits the broken star painted in rainbow gradient, propelling forward into the future.
The star is wrapped in a modified "A" which replaces our traditional "H". The "A" is inspired by concept art utilized throughout the team's history.
Combined, this new hat logo is the nexus of this new age uniform design.
Past to Present Pinstriping
The trim and pinstriping for the City Connect 2.0 design showcases a lunar pattern that pays tribute to the history of the moon landing and the pursuit to return to the moon in the coming years.
The rainbow gradient is a notable carryover from City Connect version 1.0 and is designed as a modern version of the famous "tequila sunrise" pattern.
Belt Loop Made for HTX
"HTX" is stitched along the beltline to pay homage to the city we play for. The use of "HTX" is a more youthful and innovative abbreviation for Houston, which translates to the cutting edge and futuristic design of the uniform.
Our Mission
Each space mission requires a unique mission patch and City Connect 2.0 is no different. Our mission patch takes its base design from the long-time Union Station logo that adorns the historical building next to Daikin Park. This design was specifically customized to include the Astros "H" alongside an additional nod to our home, Space City.
The Next Frontier
With Space City at the root of Houston's foundation and this design, we kept he moniker at the core of City Connect 2.0. The phrase "Space City" sits in the neckline on a lunar surface texture, intermeshing the past with the future.
Pursuit of Excellence
Our jock tag captures a moment in history for Space City. John F. Kennedy delivered his historical space travel speech on September 12, 1962 at Rice university in the heart of Houston. This speech codifies our city as "Mission Control", our people as resilient, and our organization that will pursue betterment through hard work and the relentless pursuit of excellence.
