According to Ars Technica, European space chief "cannot see" a return to cooperation with Russia, so it looks like that ship has sailed for at least a decade, maybe much longer. |

Lawmakers in the southern city of Ceske Budejovice approved a move to rescind the honorary citizenship of Valentina Tereshkova, the first woman cosmonaut, who is currently a member of the Russian parliament's lower chamber. The U.S. Treasury Department on Friday (Sept. 30) added Tereshkova to the list of Duma officials who are under sanctions for their role in supporting Russia's further invasion of Ukraine. |

In a December 2021 Ars Technica article that quoted a Russian article about the true state of Russia's space program one of the points mentioned by the Russian article author was... ...that vernier thrusters on the Soyuz boosters and in the de-orbit engines of the Soyuz-MS spacecraft use a special grade of highly refined hydrogen peroxide. Production of this hydrogen peroxide in Russia, however, depends on deliveries of chemicals produced by a German company called Evonik Resource Efficiency GmbH. These deliveries are subject to limitation by international sanctions against the Russian Federation. I would assume that at least some of this chemical is given a special sanction waiver to allow for launch of rockets to the ISS. However, beyond that I can't imagine that there would be any waivers. While the Russians should certainly over time be able to replace this chemical with a homemade variant, in the interim I would think the Russians must be getting close to hitting the wall on their supplies of this chemical. Has anyone heard anything about this of late? |

The way I read "subject to limitation" is that they could be sanctioned, but haven't yet. That seems to be supported by the author writing, "That is, the West can stop Russian space launches with a single keystroke" — not that they have already.Evonik's website still boasts providing the chemicals needed for Soyuz to launch and as best I can tell, makes no mention of ceasing that support. |

I’m speechless reading this report... Russia's former space chief Dmitry Rogozin on Thursday said that he and several others had been wounded by shelling in the Russian-controlled city of Donetsk in eastern Ukraine on Wednesday evening.Rogozin, a nationalist politician and avid war supporter who appears to have been celebrating his birthday when the attack happened, said "someone leaked information" about his whereabouts. "Several high-precision hits occurred around 19:45, including the exact place we were in," Rogozin said in a post on his Telegram channel. "A 3x4 mm metal splinter entered my right shoulder blade," he wrote, adding that he was expected to undergo surgery. Rogozin's aide told state media that the former Roscosmos chief had been hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, though he later said that doctors had been unable to remove the shrapnel from his wound. |

Given what the Russians and their appointed administrators are doing to the Ukrainians in occupied Ukraine I think that Rogozin got off easy.I seem to remember a phrase from the USSR during WWII, "Death to the occupier and the collaborators." Seems appropriate nowadays... |

From Al Arabiya: The EU is also set to sanction Valentina Tereshkova, a member of Russia’s parliament who was the first woman in space, and Oscar winner Nikita Mikhalkov, who is a prominent pro-Putin TV commentator, the document shows. |
