Congratulations to our own Larry McGlynn, along with space collectors Torie Lazaros and Cole Sommers, who star in the new WAG TV reality series, "Space Dealers."
Whether it's the pilot's seat from Gemini 12, an uneaten astronaut meal pack or the kit bag Buzz Aldrin took to the moon, if something's been to space it's worth BIG money. Every item they come across has a story – each one is a fascinating episode in the history of space exploration. And sometimes, there's a puzzle too: bits of space kit aren't always easy to identify. What did they do?
These guys aren't just dealers, they're space detectives. Sometimes, to realize an item's true value, they have to find out where it was used, and how. So they have to speak to people in the know – real space engineers and designers, and occasionally, the heroes who played a part in actual space missions.
Space Dealers debuts today (Aug. 7) on A&E Australia and is expected to come to parts of Europe soon. In addition to Larry, Torie and Cole, keep an eye out for other collectSPACE and community members who were filmed for the series.

I have met Larry and Torie. They are both classy and neat people. I wish them success with this series and hope that we get a chance to see episodes either online or on tv.

The show will air in The Netherlands on Discovery from September 26 - October 31. Larry mailed me that he "had a little bit to do with the show." That seems to be an understatement.

WAG TV does have a couple of programs broadcast on terrestial tv in the UK. (ie "Combat Dealers"). We can only hope that "Space Dealers" is picked up here.
I have petitioned WAG TV's London offices: if other UK members do likewise it may convince them there is a demand this side of the pond.

Thank you for all your accolades. The show was hard work for the five of us. Torie, Cole, Ben (the director), Ainsley (the on site producer) and I worked really hard to make the show entertaining and educational. I am sure that there are a few small miscues in the show that most of the crew here on collectSPACE will pick up, but the show was designed to enlighten the general public on some of the history of spaceflight through the sale of space related objects.
It may look like fun, but it was hard work that required 12 to 15 hour days as well as working in southern summer weather while wearing a suit and bow tie. I now have a healthy respect for TV actors. It is a tough, tiring job.
That said, I, personally, am hoping that the show accomplishes two things. That it brings a grassroots level appreciation of human spaceflight to the public and shines a light on this obscure hobby of ours. That is why I decided it was worth the personal effort to work in 98 degree August heat in Florida in a dumpster in Titusville.
I also want to say that Torie and Cole put in the same effort and were fun to work with. The heroes were Ben and Ainsley. They put in far longer hours during filming and were living out of a suitcase for eight weeks per session. I am amazed by those four and the work they put into the show.
Now it's your turn. While the show has been picked up overseas in Europe and Australia, neither the UK or the US have committed to the show. We need the grassroots support of all of you to contact Discovery, BBC4, the SyFy Channel and the Smithsonian channel and ask them to pick up the show. If they don't then the show will end with this season. It is up to public initiative to bring the show to the US and the UK.
As tough as it was, we, the actors and crew, are up for a second season. If the UK and the US pick the show up, then we are on for a second season. And, who knows, we maybe asking to visit with you and your collection.

You have to give credit to all the stars in this new show. It is not easy to act (Larry is not acting in the promo (while he is in the car — must be going around a Massachusetts rotary!). They did a great job! Send in your thoughts to all the channels.

Last week while traveling for work in Latvia, I happened to catch the first episode on Aug 3rd and it was great. Was watching the only English channel I could find, Discovery (with Latvian subtitles), and figured the show must have already been on US TV. Later found this post...
Here are a few photos from Episode 1:
According to the channel guide in Latvia, there appears to be at least six episodes planned to air, once a week, on Thursdays:
EP.1 - Aug 3
EP.2 - Aug 10
EP.3 - Aug 17
EP.4 - Aug 24
EP.5 - Aug 31
EP.6 - Sept 7
Larry can confirm if there are more coming after that.

Thank you. We are glad that you liked the show. There are a total of six episodes in this season.
If there are to be more episodes, then the UK and USA have to pick up the show. Otherwise, Space Dealers was a unique experience that will end after the first season.

Let's hope it doesn't, as it might hurt the chances of the show being picked up by a U.S. network...

Just saw the teaser trailer release that Larry posted above and it looks to be a lot of fun for us space dealers and collectors out there.
When viewing the pre-film series introduction, I did notice an Apollo 11 crew signed litho pictured. There appeared to be a magnifying eyepiece over the Aldrin signature, however, the signatures were all autopens of man's first lunar landing crew.

I welcome Robert and all command of serial, I by chance knew 4 a week ago that a serial will be shown in Russia, I am very pleasant to look such serials and films because I did films about space and cosmonautics, and now too I sell some things touching space history. It was sadly me after viewing yesterday of fifth series, when nothing turned out Cole and Larry to begin to work. I understood the aim of serial at once, that aim in that to show history of cosmonautics through things that touch space. I too very want to see second and third seasons and in general it would be not badly to take off a serial about collectors that collect things related to history).

Maybe YouTube would be that network. Want to reach old viewers - network TV. Want to reach young viewers - YouTube.

I don't disagree, but this is already a network show, being shopped to U.S. networks. (In any case, my comment was more about the unauthorized posting of episodes by viewers, not by the networks themselves.)

To anybody who is living in France. Space Dealers will be airing on RMC Decouverte in France on Saturday 9th December. They have scheduled three episodes back to back, so We’re about to own Saturday night on French TV!
Enjoy the evening.

I'm sure I'll enjoy the evening, but to watch your show Larry, I'll have to wake up early. It will be on air at... 7am, until 10:35am
On RMC découverte the language is always French so I hope the translation and voices will be fine. Can't wait to watch and record these three.

As I said in the post above yours, yes I did. It was episodes 1, 2, 3, while episodes 3 (replay) and 4 are due Thursday 14, then 5 and 6 Thursday 21, however both weeks at... 1am!
The first three on Saturday were scheduled at 7am, but as always with these little channels, it wasn't on time and started 45 minutes later. It was in French, while you could still hear the original US in the back. The voices were sadly the same types used for the shopping channels, so they all appear a bit fake, not natural with their intonations if you see what I mean.
Another negative point, some pathetic mistakes in the translation, when you learn that "only three lunar landings were successful," or that Gemini was a shuttle, etc. Sadly, it happens with every documentary these days.
So, was it a disappointment? No way, it was great, I mean, it's a show focused on SPACE MEMORABILIA, so I was hooked, recorded the whole thing and I'm currently looking at every frame analyzing the objects, comparing them with my collection (and very proud of what I've got) and learning a lot.
I don't know if RMC will give you some audience ratings, but I'm not sure they believe in this in the first place, otherwise they would have put it on air at more appropriate hours. 1am is absurd for a Premiere, and very few replays are scheduled.
(The YouTube channel isn't mine. I only uploaded my daughter playing the piano on mine.)

I have to confess, the Russian commentary is very frustrating but great to see it at least. Hopefully it will not reduce the chances of the show being picked up by a British tv company.
Sorry Larry but whenever I see your bow tie I am half expecting it to start spinning around!

Rick, when we filmed this show the key word was "dignity." Always Dignity. No spinning bow tie gags. We wanted to follow the formal fashion sense created by the show "Downton Abbey."
