It's with heavy heart to announce that British actor Roger Moore, best known for playing James Bond (aka 007), has passed away from cancer at 89 years of age. One of his James Bond movies everyone should recall was "Moonraker" in 1979, which involved the space shuttles. He'll be deeply missed but not forgotten... |

Who could possibly ever forget? Sir Frederick Gray, Minister of Defence: My God, what's Bond doing? Q: I think he's attempting re-entry, sir. Farewell Commander... Orbis Non Sufficit. |

I grew up watching all of the Bond flicks and Moonraker is one of my favorites. I remember laughing when Bond had another encounter with Jaws. R.I.P. Sir Moore ! |

Roger Moore was my favourite Bond and of course "Moonraker" was my favourite film. Never forget waiting in the queue in Glasgow odeon, woman in front of me, "the only problem with the film is the space ships there just to futuristic." At the time in Scotland unless you had an interest in space most of the public and media was clueless about the space shuttle. |

Sad news and another reminder that like our first generation astronauts time awaits for no one.I first remember Roger Moore when I was a kid in 'Ivanhoe' on tv when having sword fights etc he always emerged with his hair immaculate, the same as in 'The Saint' which was Sunday night compulsive viewing. Of course as James Bond he will be most remembered and as a hard working ambassador for Unicef. RIP. |

I'm a member of an autograph collector forum on Facebook, and the accounts I've been reading of the interactions collectors had with him in pursuit of his autograph are thoroughly entertaining. It sounds, by all accounts, that he was a very cordial, friendly chap that was good to this fans.In addition, he's probably my favorite Bond. I've read comments from other Bond actors who seemed to think they were above the role. I never got that vibe from Mr. Moore. In fact, it appeared he relished his time as 007, which I greatly respect. RIP, Sir Roger Moore. |

I wouldn't say that "Moonraker" was his finest hour, but Sir Roger Moore was one of the good guys. |

I have an advance copy of "My Word Is My Bond" autobiography which went unsigned as he was never in NYC when I was many times. Heard nothing but good things about him. |

This anecdote gives a measure of the man. ...anecdote from Mark Haynes however, a scriptwriter from London who had a chance meeting with Moore at an airport when he was seven.I don't want to spoil its twists so won't discuss what happened, but the absolutely charming story has already attracted 31,000 interactions and 9,000 shares on Facebook along with a ton of widely-shared screen grabs. |
