Robert, you should move the pictures of your place under the "Space Places" category. |

You have a really great collection with both breadth and depth. Thanks for sharing the photos. (Nice UCD!) |

Thanks guys for the great reaction to seeing my collection... Fred, the Cola Wars in Space collection is among my pride and joys. It had its start with one of the very first online projects I created, the former "Coke in Space" website. Russ, I really like how you presented part of your collection as a series of nestled photos. I may borrow that idea once I can get a better set of photos taken here. Gilbert, it really has become a "place," hasn't it? I jokingly refer to it as a museum (inspired by fellow cS'er and friend Jake Schultz's Newport Way Air Museum) and gladly offer tours. John, some of that breadth and depth can be credited to you and your amazing archives... And Shane? One word -- Thanks! |

Great colletion Robert, but then again we didn't expect anything else. Mostly manned spaceflight but there's a nice Viking lucite. Looking forward to see more... |

Robert:1. Your Orbit Ops Checklist...is that a flown article? Regardless, which flight is it from (from the typeface it appears to be post-51L)? 2. Your silverware in the same pic...is that shuttle flown silverware? Again, from which flight/crewmember? |

Is that an Apollo CM door resting on the wall? It looks like one or one from a mockup. |

There are two Orbit Ops checklists, STS-50 and STS-132. Neither are flown. The shuttle utensil set is a recent addition from a fellow cS member and is also not flown. The hatch is from the common berthing mechanism for the International Space Station, the largest doorway ever launched into orbit. |

If you liked mine, Scott 'SpaceAholic' Schneeweis' hatch is even more impressive for its latching mechanism is still in place. |

Scott found both at an aerospace recycling center. Working with Boeing, we traced their history to a decade earlier when they were sent for recycling after a very minor defect ruled out their use. According to Boeing, they are the only two produced that were not used either for training or in space. |

Wow. That's a very amazing find. Watch one of us ends up with a photo of the Enterprise or Discovery in a private museum lol |

For the commercial guys intending to latchup with the ISS CBM, will be interesting to see if the same hatch design is incorporated. The low fidelity drawings of Dragon appear to show a similar hatch in the docking section. |

Thanks! And indeed, it is signed -- Buzz came by my place a few years ago and while there, I asked him to sign the poster to scale. |

Robert, very impressive! It was really nice to see all of the different displays and atrifacts that you have. Great collection! My collection, sadly, has no room in our house right now, and the majority of it is in a storage facility in Houston, where my folks have kept it safe and secure. |

I'd say other peoples reaction is split about 50/50 between those that think the collection is cool and those that think I'm a loon for collecting the items. |

My wife, who lets me acquire whatever I want, always wants to know what she can sell it for when I die. |

I would ask her is she wants to know the current market prices or the future market prices. |

I'd say 20% think it's cool, but the other 80% have an attitude of indifference. I honestly think they have no idea of the significance of what they are looking at. |

Now yer talkin. That's a lot of stuff and some really nice things, too. I have that same portrait of Grissom, but not signed as yours. It would be great to see bigger images. And I see that you're ceiling challenged, too. I finally decided that Photoshop was cheaper than Sheetrock, or at least easier to apply. Are any of your warbirds models signed?

Roger that. I was getting a 404 error before. Thanks for fixing it. Now I can really see his stuff! Any chance you can start a Space Mancave thread and put these posts with images in there? I really like checking them out (as you know...). |

Whenever I show my collection of NASA artifacts that were flown to the surface of the moon, I get the "usual" comments; Interesting, nice, how did you get this, how do you know it was on the moon?, etc. What a change happens when I hand them moonwalker Cernan's Garland mechanical pencil, with lead, that he used on the Moon. I tell them to write their name on a reduced photocopy of Cernan's COA, put it in a sheet protector, then they will have a trace of a NASA artifact that was on the Moon. That excites them and most say "I can't wait until I show this to...". |

Since the main focus of my collection is children's space books, people don't see them as much. To get those out I blog about them here. The other part of the collection is my office. I don't have space at home but my office is decorated with inspirational space art and space stuff. I also have a wall of stuff my kids did for me mixed with some of what I consider to be the classic space images. I do have some books on display that I swap in and out. Here is a rack: Mostly when people see the room they stop to ask about different things or simply stare. |

People are a bit impressed with my collection but they are very impressed with my knowledge and my enthusiasm for NASA. They keep telling me that I should work for NASA. |
