Eight hours. 30 minutes left in greater Phoenix. It's very sunny and warm, near mid-60's temps. This '09 year was really good. Witnessed the STS-125 last Hubble repair launch from Titusville (near the Space Walk of Fame museum) and added some nice space items to my collection. Also was very glad to help some collectSPACE members to get some signatures at Spacefest. The next year is hopefully a good one for all you spacenuts.
It's kind of sad to countdown towards the very last shuttle launch. The shuttle was constructed to fly up to 100 missions each but in the nearly 30 year history we "only" saw five different shuttles launch 129 missions. The shuttle spends way too much time at the OPF or VAB. Many people will realize too late what a great manned spaceflight system the shuttle really was.
A silent minute for the 14 crew members that manned Challenger and Columbia.
All the best for NASA and their future missions. You guys rule! I trust the NASA family will take us back to the Moon and beyond.
To get back to the topic, a Happy New Year... to all of you... on the good Earth!
