The following was recently posted to the another discussion board: Last night I watched the final episode of Battlestar Galactica, in which Starbuck and Apollo sneak aboard a Cylon Basestar to take out its control center... and my eyes about popped out of my skull when they climbed down a hatch into the interior of Skylab! It had been awhile since I had watched the original (1978) Battlestar Galactica, but as both a fan of the series and of course, Skylab, had to check this out for myself. Further to the other on-going discussion, it was suggested that NASA had loaned the Skylab 1G Trainer at its Marshall Space Flight Center in Alabama to Universal Studios. The episode, "The Hand of God", first aired on April 29, 1979, less than three months before the real Skylab reentered the atmosphere. The same episode made use of Apollo 11 audio and NASA Saturn V footage in place of custom effect shots. It wouldn't be the last time NASA loaned some thing one to Battlestar Galactica... |
