"The Invasion" is a remake of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" starring Nicole Kidman. I saw the trailer (preview) online yesterday. I was honestly dismayed that it starts with a very "graphic" special-effects scene of the space shuttle breaking apart and burning up on reentry. Then there are fake news scenes showing charred pieces scattered across the ground, and authorities warning people not to touch them because they might be contaminated. Well, whoops, it turns out the pieces do have alien spores or something on them, because that's how the invasion/takeover begins. The rest of the trailer is just plain creepy and suspenseful. Here's the point: am I being oversensitive, or was it downright insensitive of them to have the invasion start that way? Of all the ways they could have had that happen, they had to choose an event that so clearly mirrors the Columbia tragedy? (I assume they will make up a name for this fictional shuttle.) The deaths of seven people have been turned into a plot device for the delivery of alien spores. (Which doesn't even make much sense: why would the spores be on this reentry, on the superheated pieces, instead of on an earlier one, sitting on the nice clean white tiles waiting for some poor technician?) Isn't this like setting a jewelry heist movie during Hurricane Katrina or 9-11? Steve |

It would seem to make more sense (and I use that term loosely) for the alien life to hop a ride on a shuttle that made it through re-entry with no problems. Agree that this is Hollywood trying to capitalize on a recent tragedy.

But we're so lucky that 007 (at least the latest version of it) is part of the movie. No worries, he'll save the day.Chris. |

No matter how many millions they have spent on this remake, I'll bet it doesn't come anywhere close to the original creepy classic, "Invasion of the Bodysnatchers." |

Eww...That's Columbia all over again. I remember when "The Core" was being released it was just after Columbia, they had to delay the movie several months because of a shuttle disaster in there also, but at least it made a somewhat safer crash landing in that movie. Nit-picking the trailer: -SSMEs are ignited during reentry? -Looks like shuttle is going in too steep rather than "belly flopping" like it should - but maybe that is what causes the scene in the movie anyway?
