Hi all,
Sorry this is not space related.
The other day I walked by a 50th or 60th FORD pickup truck and it is such a pleasure to look at. It reminded me of the trucks in the early Lassie episodes. Nowadays cars look all similar. In my opinion the most ugly car is the PT Cruiser. Yes, the good old times how I miss ya. The times when a gallon of gas was 19 cents and the world respected our leader and homeland. I fear that is all a thing of the past. We clearly missed many opportunities to invest in better fuel economy automobiles. Instead the industries offer Hummer's & SUV's to us valued customers. You know how much a fill up cost for those cars especially with $3.00 plus at the pump. Ouch! The demand for gas is high not just because of this. But no I don't start to get into politics. Let's see what the future will hold for all of us. I have a feeling it will not be good future especially for our kids.
Any comments. I really hope you can point out some coming positive things in the future and then I am able to see the bright light on the end of the tunnel.
Another good thing in the past is the rockets they looked so much more elegant.
Andy

Hi Andy-

It's OK to vent we all need to from time to time. As far as prices go-it's all relative. My grandfather took home $7.00/week when he was newly married. When I started driving gas was 27 cents/gallon. Do you remember the lines at the gas station during the "oil embargo" of the 70's. People were worried about topping off their tank before it went up to 34cents, then 37, 40 50...

I would rather focus on the positive. Maybe because I work with a lot of kids with the Young Astronaut Program. Todays kids are smarter than we were and they will want a bright future too. If given the chance they'll discover great things.

It's my hope that this current "pain at the pump" crisis will get the oil companies and the government off their backsides to really look at alternatives.

Of course we could move to Venzuela where the prices is 12 cents a gallon.

BTW unfriendly nations with nukes worries me more than the cost of living.

All those new Chrysler "PT series" cars are hideous if you ask me. That thing with the large grill where it looks like a mix between a car and a Norelco shaver makes me cringe whenever I see it. Followed closely by the "Toaster on wheels" Scion.
*ugh!*

So, back to spacecraft. The Saturn V is the best looking of them all. Anyone else have anything to add to ugly cars and attractive spacecraft?

I guess its all in the eye of the beholder: as a PT Cruiser owner, I couldn't be more happy with the car's performance and appearance. Its unique design was what attracted me to it, providing the right mix between spacious cargo and passenger room typical for Texas roadways and yet it being small enough to fit nicely on the streets (and more importantly, parking spaces) of Washington, DC. The few astronauts I have provided rides to/from the airport have complimented its design too, so I guess my tastes are in good company.

What was that hideous boxy overdone SUV that was about $28K originally and they were selling them off at about $15K to get rid of them ? They were scary. They may have well had fish scented air fresheners in them as well...

The most attractive rocket and SC ? The Gemini-Titan imho. Slim, simple, and fast.
