Any other Traffic fans here on cS? Then it's a sad day for you too. Traffic drummer Jim Capaldi died in his sleep last Friday, Jan. 28th in London from a short bout with stomach cancer. He and Steve Winwood wrote almost all of Traffic's music. Capaldi, an accomplished musician, never played the drums before co-founding Traffic. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame just last year. The following link tells more... http://www.cnn.com/2005/SHOWBIZ/Music/01/28/people.capaldi.reut/index.html |

Sheesh, Francis, another thing in common. Even though it's "before my time", Traffic were definitely a favourite. Nonetheless, I couldn't really relate to Capaldi's later solo projects .... ------------------ Jürgen P Esders Berlin, Germany http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Astroaddies [This message has been edited by eurospace (edited January 31, 2005).] |

We are all showing our age by responding to this thread. But Traffic did produce some excellent music. |

Yes, I met Jim a couple of times, one of the most nonchalant, non-egotists one could ever meet; no problem speaking at length about anything. Jim signed freely on some Traffic promotional CD's I proudly displayed. Jim will be sorely missed, a great talent in the music world which is quite rare with the "new" talent out there nowadays. Too many think one or even two hit LP's and they are superstars. Today's "american idols" are anything but. [This message has been edited by Wehaveliftoff (edited January 31, 2005).] |
