It seems like only a short time ago I was the youngest person in a meeting. Then boom, one day I was the oldest.I'd certainly like to think I'm not old, but the feeling is creeping up on me reading the "Who are you" that I'm in the upper percentile of this forum. One thing I enjoy about aging in the sense of history I've actually seen, and an appreciation for what has happened before me, and what my grandchildren will do in the future. Its been an especially interesting journey relative to my lifetime favorites of aviation and space exploration. I've mentioned some anecdotes before and probably will in the future but will not wear out this posting. I'll open up by admitting to 60 (not quite sure when or how that happened, as it was just yesterday I was 22 and getting married.) I do enjoy this forum because of the diversity of ages, professions and nationalities, and our keen interest in this topic. So the bidding is open, starting at 60. |

Hey Steve, I'm catching up with you! I turned 58 on January 28th! ![](http://collectspace.com/ubb/biggrin.gif) Wonder if any of the "youngsters" on this site remember Buffalo Bob, Howdy Doody, Pinky Lee, or Jet Jackson?!! Or watching Al Shepard's Mercury launch live on TV?! Paul |

I'm glad this topic came up. It reminded me I had to update my profile. ;-) I am now 44. I was still listed as being 42. I wish we could really freeze time that way, ha ha.In any case it looks like the age range here is pretty wide. My first memories of spaceflight are of Gemini, around 1965. The interest has stayed with me through my life, and I am glad to be a space enthusiast! |

Well, it all depends on how you define "old". Chronologically I'm 46, but my wife and daughter think that mentally I'm about 5. And after a minor but painful injury last week, I feel and walk like I'm about 90! Regards, Mike |

I do believe Matt T is the oldest member of the group. A reputed 110 years old, I know he would have us believe he is in his mid 20's. The truth is he keeps his boyish looks with a cocktail of viagra and spacesuit parts....Regards, A very youthful Rick. |

42.....the same age Elvis was when he died! I was 15 at the time and remember thinking, "Well, at least he lived a long life"! Ah, youth! I've since changed my views on what a long life is.... Wow, that was only eight years after Apollo 11 ! I remember watching Armstrong and Aldrin walk on the Moon, in fact, during the entire mission, I remember my Mom explaining what TV footage was real and what was NASA animation! We had a small B&W TV, around 15", I'd guess. |

I might add that besides the spacesuit parts and viagra the other reason I look so good for a decagenerian is the Dorian Gray style pact I made with the devil. For each year that I remain young and fresh one of my fellow space collectors carries the burden of my aging. So now you all know why Rick is so hideously wrinkled and warty. ![](http://collectspace.com/ubb/smile.gif) If only I could work a similar deal on my space-related spending... Cheers, Matt (33 years old on the outside) |

I won't reveal my age. But I am exactly 10 years younger than Paul (see his post above). So we share the same bittersweet time each year, celebrating our birthdays as we mourn the loss of space heroes. One of my earliest space memories is in kindergarten when John Glenn flew his Mercury flight. ------------------ John Fongheiser President Historic Space Systems http://www.space1.com |

Forgetting feeling older than we are, it looks like our esteemed colleague Richard Jackson at 74, is our respected Elder. I'm second at 60, and Paul (who is a great guy and lots of fun) is third at 58.Surely there are some other claimants. |

Steve, Do we now have to call him Richard the Elder or Sir Richard or Mr. Jackson? I'll bet that Richard can remember hearing about Chuck Yeager breaking the sound barrier when he (Richard) was a young man! I'll also bet that even if he is 16 years older than me, Richard could beat me in a foot race!! Enjoy your retirement in Florida, Richard! Maybe, if you're lucky, you can go fishing with Gen. Collins! ![](http://collectspace.com/ubb/wink.gif) Paul Speaking of Chuck Yeager, I believe today is his birthday and I think he is 81! Happy Birthday Gen. Yeager! |

A few days ago I made a new post on "What were you doing Feb. 20, 1962?" and the majority of replys received were of the much younger generation just starting school or just a gleam in their daddys eye. I was wondering how many older CS members were older like me and still active and so I did a search of the archives and found just what I was looking for, however the last entry to this post was Feb. 15, 2004, and I am now resurrecting it since many things could have happened since then. The oldest SC member then was Richard Jackson at age 74. I am 71 so lets see who is older out there..... (maybe someone will start a new post to see who is the youngest CS member, if one hasnt already been posted). |

I'm 66 (one of the "war -babes" generation). My first interest in spaceflight began with the "Eagle" comic and "Dan Dare" in the 1950s. Secondary school and jobs then intervened, and I didn't get interested again until Apollo 8. |
