I have a question about Americas first space walk. In one picture I noticed that Ed White II had a camera. Has anyone seen any photos that he took with this camera? I sure haven't. I would imagine he should have gotten a breath taking picture of Gemini 4 flying with the hatch open. The camera appears to either be in his right hand, or mounted somehow on his wrist. Can anyone shead any light on this? Ed------------------ "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands." Psalms 19:1 NIV |

White took about 15 photos, I believe, none of which are very good. One shows McDivitt's window, another the adapter section of Gemini-4. But no overall pictures of the spacecraft. Gene Cernan made better pictures during his Gemini-9 spacewalk.Ed Hengeveld |

Hi Ed, The camera was mounted to the hand held self-maneuvering unit that he used durring his EVA. See photo S65-27331 JSC Digital Image Collection. As for the photos he took with it, there was at least one taken of the spacecraft and I believe more that I remember seeing, but they wern't all that great because he wasn't far enough away from the spacecraft. If you have the book "Gemini America's Historic Walk In Space" published by United Press International you will see one of the photos(no page number). The photo shows the R&R section, the RCS section, and Jim McDivitt's side of the spacecraft with a view of Jim through the window. Seems as though I have seen others but can't remember where. Hope this helps. Rick |
