I want to wish all collectSPACE members a happy Fourth of July weekend, even our friends in England! Just kidding! Here in Philadelphia they are opening the brand new Consititution Center. It's a huge new building just off the Ben Franklin Bridge. It has a lot of interactive displays and live presentations by actors in residence as well as life-sized bronze sculptures of the signers of the Constitution. Each section is dedicated to a different part of the Constitution and the Amendments that followed. I'm sure you will see clips from the opening on CNN and C-span since the President will awarding the Liberty medal here. This really isn't Space related, but when I take time during a holiday weekend (Memorial Day, Fourth of July), I tend to think of all the sacrifices made for freedom and exploration. The first image that comes to mind is that crumpled Apollo 11 American flag planted on the moon. Even in a time when we are still mourning the Columbia crew we can look back in pride to our achievements in space and possibly dream about a brighter future. Have a safe, enjoyable holiday!
