I noticed that there are a few dates listed for Gen. Staffords book signing.
Anyone know when (and where) he will be signing in New York?
Thanks.
Tom

The New York book signing has yet to be confirmed. As soon as it is, I'll post details to Sightings.

According to a friend who owns a bookstore, the TBA most likely means that the appearances will occur in 2003.

Are there any plans for General Stafford to extend his tour outside the United States? Could he be persuaded to do a book-signing at, for instance, the London Science Museum? The setting would be perfect, with his old friend "Charlie Brown" in the background. The only time I ever saw Gen Stafford, he was disappearing very fast into the Florida sky!

I would like to join in with Blackarrow's wishful thinking but lets not narrow it down to the Science Museum - anywhere in England will do. Perhaps Mike Cassutt could come to. The only problem would be carrying the three editions of the Who's Who and the Deke book for Mike to sign.

Seriously, it would be nice but I don't suppose we have much chance of a visit to these shores.

Best wishes

I would not be so quick to dismiss the possibility of a visit to the UK by Tom Stafford. Should Tom or any of his contacts read this, please be advised that when Alan Shepard visited the UK in 1994 (ish) he received good coverage on TV and the booksigning I attended in Manchester was packed. When Jim Irwin spoke in Bridgenorth some years ago I could not get in; the venue was sold out. And as many of my fellow countrymen and women will vouch, the Autographica shows over the last three years have been very successful. Come on Tom....make the effort. You will not be disappointed.

Rick.

I fifth that motion. Any other UK members who'd turn up for Tom Stafford? Sign up and maybe Robert could have a word in his ear at the Space Congress.
Cheers,
Matt

I'll not just be there for a Tom Stafford book signing but have yet to meet a Mercury astronaut so look forward to Scott Carpenters book also. Wonder if Autographica
would be interested?

Glad to see that my suggestion has produced so much agreement. Robert, do you think there's any chance General Stafford could be persuaded to bring his book to the UK?

Robonaut - anywhere in England would be fine. A public meeting in Belfast would suit me even better, but I specified London because (a) it's probably the easiest venue for an American visitor; (b) it's fairly easy for the rest of us provincials to get to; and (c) the Science Museum is the home of Apollo 10 command module "Charlie Brown", and that would be a big incentive for Tom Stafford. He went round the Moon in that little capsule and he isn't getting any younger. I can't help thinking he would like the chance to see Charlie Brown again.

How about Manchester as a UK venue? Good links worldwide and the Manchester Science Museum has Tom's Gemini space suit on display I believe.

I regret to the bearer of bad news, but I spoke with the publisher today and there just isn't a budget to bring Gen. Stafford overseas.

Sorry guys...

On behalf of all space enthusiasts this side of "the pond" Robert, thank you for your efforts. The publishers might want to consider contacting the organisers of Autographica. I don't know what arrangements are made with guest signers re expenses but for sure the astronauts that do attend make a bob or two on the venture. What better way to promote his book and earn some cash at the same time.......? Just a thought.

Regards, Rick.

Rick

Not a bad idea about Autographica. If Dave or Garry are watching how about it?

Will it help if I promise to buy two books?

Best wishes
