I saw a 2 hour PBS special last night. (I even skipped e.r.!) I think it was called, "To The Moon." this was originally put out about 2 1/2 years ago.Brilliant. They focused on the science and engineering required to get to the moon. There was a lengthy section devoted just to LOR. They devoted time to the scientists' resolve to put a scientist on the moon. It was full of famous flight directors, engineers, scientists and astronauts. A virtual Who’s Who in getting to the Moon. The astros I recall were... Schirra, Stafford, Lovell, Borman, Anders, Cernan, Aldrin, Haise, Schmitt, Scott, Cunningham and Conrad. There may have been more I forgot. They had a lot of footage I had not seen before. If you ever get a chance to see it, this special was really, really good.

Hmmm....how did I miss that one? Sounds good. I did see (and recorded) the "Rockets Red Glare" off the TLC channel the other night. That sure was some good explosive fun!Tom |

I agree completely!I've seen the PBS special also. Don Brady got me a copy of it. It's wonderful. It's extremely effective in explaining the process of the moonlandings, using easy-to-understand graphics (the best I've yet seen) that are perfect for teaching younger kids the mechanics of the whole thing. Along with Moonshot and maybe For All Mankind, I think it's one of the very best. And how the heck did they manage to convince Anders to do an Apollo 8 interview? |

I was shopping for a space book Sunday night on Amazon.com. Amazon kindly gave me a list of recommendations, which included this DVD. (They seem to know my buying habits!)So, I fell under the spell of late night Internet shopping and bought it for about $17 or so... "To The Moon," from NOVA, mind altering television! I am so weak with credit cards and space stuff! ------------------ Warm Regards Douglas Henry Enjoy yourself and have fun.... it is only a hobby! |

NOVA first aired the episode, I believe, the week of the 30th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission and I watched it then. I picked up the videotape a while back and it has seen a fair amount of play. An absolutely astounding show and well worth the purchase (I would be curious to learn if the DVD version provides more, since the original episode had recommnded links to NOVA's website)My only objection to the show is their creation, I believe, of an external, long range view of Apollo 1 during the fire. They show the Saturn 1B surrounded within the gantry and tower and suddenly have these pulsing lights visible in the evening. I am unaware of such footage existing and the quality seems too good for 1967. If it is actual film, it is very interesting. But I do believe it is something the producers concocted and, if so, that is a shame for even that little bit of fiction could taint. | |
