Does anyone know a website where I could pull up the Apollo 12 transcripts of the exchange going on between Al Bean, Pete Conrad, Dick Gordon, and Houston from the time they opened Intrepid's hatch for the first EVA until just after Capt. Conrad stepped out on the surface? I really only need the interchange between Captains Bean & Conrad, but if any other exchanges went on at that time I'd wish to know.Also where within the LM would Capt. Conrad have stored his PPK? If no one knows, where might I find out? Thanks a bunch! ------------------

http://www.hq.nasa.gov/office/pao/History/alsj/a12/a12j.html As for the location of the PPKs, I personally have never seen documentation indicating where exactly these were stowed. I have heard that the LM packs were accessible to be transferred to the CM but were not accessed by the crew otherwise. |

Thanks Robert, you know why I asked...I'm acting on your suggestion.As to the PPK's I knew they were only handled when the were transferred unopened from the LM to the CSM, then removed from the CM by, I think, NASA personnel. I just wondered where in the LM they were placed until retrieved. Does anyone know just where the cabin storage "lockers" were in LM6? Even an educated guess would be useful. If nothing else I can write Capt. Bean. ------------------

Wayne:I too have wondered exactly where the PPKs were stowed in the LM (I am curious to know where my flag was). I have never been able to find a solid answer to this, but check out page 65 of Tom Kelly's Moon Lander. You will notice the stowage compartments for the Commander and the LMP. I would assume that there were several areas that could have held the PPKs, but these compartments could certainly be a possibility.

Most of the PPKs were stored behind the Cdr.'s position in the storage compartment area to the left of the LM. At this posting, which I'm at the other house where the computer is housed, I don't have the info handy at the moment as my LM manuals/etc. are at the home-office site. Once I get over to the main office, I'll post again in a day or two with the exact location of the stored PPKs. I can actually visualize their LM-location storage in my mind, but I need to recheck the manuals for their exact location and proper designation. |

Just got back from viewing the spectacular early-morning launch of STS-104/Atlantis and all appears to be going well at the moment. I've only had about 3 hrs. sleep before the 5 am liftoff, but I wanted to get this posted now, instead of waiting more days. Anyway, the PPKs were stored in the LM's Crew Compartment of the Midsection behind the Cdr.'s position (left side). There is a small container that was especially outfitted for the kits, located right above the Oxygen Purge System (OPS) and adjacent to where the two pairs of lunar overshoes were kept. Right above the kits is another container where 3 packages of food were housed for the lunar stay (2 days with more added later). I hope this helps a little. |
