The National Archives has these very impressive films of the Apollo 16 launch. They are the first high-speed launch films I have seen of the later J-missions. |

Always wonderful seeing these old launch films...reminds you again of the amazing size and awesome power of the Saturn V. |

In the first film, you can see the Q-ball cover release. You can also see a white object falling down the side of the LUT.In the second film, you can see a shock wave moving away from the pad at ground level. |

Was that a winds radiosonde balloon drifting past at the beginning of the first film? |

Thank you so much for the videos. I was privileged to be in the reviewing stand for this historic launch. |

I'm guessing that E-77 and E-51 are camera positions. |

Didn't find a lot on Apollo-era pad cameras. But there was this teaser with a dead photo link. |

Here is a photo of Apollo 16 on the pad. You can see several cameras on the LUT. You can also see the Q-ball cover, which is what I believe you mistook for a balloon when the cover was released in the first film. |

There is another Apollo 16 launch camera that was focused on the third stage and spacecraft. You can see (at 15:45) the launch vehicle as it ascends passing by the waxing crescent moon. Awesome. |

Starting at 8:00 in the above film, you can see some dark objects tumbling and falling from the sky. |
