Five years or so after the Apollo 11 moon landing a story began to circulate that Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin left behind on the Moon an advert for a hotel in Acapulco regularly used by the astronauts. This was allegedly based on a photo of the location taken in orbit by the Apollo 7 crew.Does anyone have information on this or can anyone verify it? I have written to Aldrin on the matter but had no response. |

I have not heard this particular story, but any reference to an astronaut-frequented hotel in Acapulco is probably Frank Brandstetter's Las Brisas resort. The astronauts flew many items for him and took photos of his resort area from space. Hope this helps, and I look forward to hearing what you discover. |

In his biography, Brandy shares that he purchased six small gold crosses at the Mexico City airport as he was on his way to Cape Canaveral to watch the Apollo 11 launch. Apparently, these six crosses were carried to the moon by Buzz Aldrin but interestingly enough, only five were returned. It was assumed that the sixth cross was left on the lunar surface. Brandy kept one of the five returned crosses, one was given to Don Carlos a.k.a. Carlos Trouyet, owner of Las Brisas and the other three crosses, given to the Apollo 11 astronauts themselves. I trust this was what you were asking about? If so, hope the information was helpful. |

Many thanks for replies. Not heard about the crosses. Was definitely a photo taken by Apollo 7 crew and advertised the hotel in Acapulco. Confirmation would be gratefully received. |
