Some of you may remember my PictureTrail website, "AstronautGallery". It contained over 1,000 scans, mostly of autograph material and information, but was lost when the Picturetrail server ceased operations in 2021.But not all was lost. A kind computer expert volunteered to save it for me, in its entirety, on a CD - actually on two identical CDs. It's identical to how it was on my website, but is frozen in time and can't be added to or anything deleted. But I am very thankful for what I have. I would like to have it put back on the Internet and am asking if anyone knows if the information on a CD could be installed on the Internet on a website? Could this be done and could someone assist? Thank you for any help or advice. |

It depends on how the information was saved. If they are (for lack of a better way to explain) screen shots of the site then all you can do is crop the pictures and post. If the site was saved where each image is its own file even better. We need more information on how it was saved to comment. |

Thanks. To explain my Picturetrail website on a CD: It has 24 albums displayed on the main page with each a different category (such as, "Moonwalkers") and each album contains many scanned images (mostly autograph material). Small images in each category/album are displayed in a vertical column on the left. Scrolling down, I choose an image and when clicked on, it appears full size, with information I have added. As mentioned, it's used and identical to how it was on my website. My hope is that the entire CD could be transferred to a new website. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. The loss of my Picturetrail website (AstronautGallery) was a huge and sad disappointment to me, but several other collectors also lost their space-related websites when Picturetrail ceased operations. Their loss was a loss to the space collecting hobby (one specializing in flight test aircraft and pilots). |

If the file names have .html/.htm extensions it is likely a clone of the site and would be suitable for re-activation if you have a hosting place line up. |

Are you willing to copy and distribute that CD? |

I have two identical CDs. Ideally, I would like to mail one CD to a website hosting site and have them transfer/copy it to create a website just for it. |

Did you check to see if the site was scraped by Archive.org? It might be a way to get it back from there as well. |

I've got no expertise and no recommendations for you Bob but I'm rooting for you to get the site back up!!! |

Thanks everyone for your help and good wishes. We're still working on this, but I'm not optimistic.Concerning Archive.org, we checked that out shortly after my website was lost and, while there, it was not in useful form. |

Bob, I loved your website and used it as a resource for a long time. Personally would like to see it back online for all to enjoy. For what its worth, I've built several websites on my own from the ground up, writing the html code, making the layout, arranging images, and posting to a third-party web-server. Then managing it with updates and such over time. I like the webhost I use Interserver.net mostly because they have unlimited storage space and you can pay for three years at a time upfront, domain registering was easy too. There are many other web-hosts out there as well. From what you describe it should be possible to resurrect the site from the backup CD you have. In lieu of sending a physical copy out, if you are able to copy the contents of the CD to a computer and put into a .zip file. You can upload that zip file to https://www.file.io/ I've used this free site (no signup required) to send large files to friends (micropooz can attest to how easy it is). You can easily control when it gets removed after you choose one or more people that can download. Sharing the link once it is uploaded can be private or you can copy and paste it here. The above comments are a possible idea for either me or someone else here on cS to take a look at what you have and advise more. I'd be more than happy to help if you wish. Reach out via email. |

Thank you, Jeff. You are very kind. It's nice to get something positive regarding the possibility of having my "AstronautGallery" website (now on a CD) installed on a new website on the Internet. Soon I will contact you via email about this. Thank you again. |
