I’d like to hear your thoughts regarding this Apollo-Soyuz crew signed cover? It appears that it was signed by all using the same pen. I'm unsure about the Leonov and Slayton, and advice would be appreciated, thanks folks. |

A little bit on the rough side with Slayton and possibly Leonov (quickly signed), but all look fine. Just my own opinion of being an avid and long-time space autograph collector. |

I agree with Ken but remember NASA had a autopen matrix for Leonov and Kubasov but I have not seen many to make a definitive judgement. |

I have both Leonov and Slayton on a LISDA NY cover from January 1973, and both are similar (but not identical) to yours. I'd say sloppy, hasty but genuine. |

Thank you both for your input, very much appreciated. I overlaid the autopen patterns and none came close to matching.I've been second guessing myself quite a bit lately after becoming the not so proud owner of some forged pieces so I'm glad my collector-vision is still functional! |

Yes, John, I had forgot to mention that there were two known autopen patterns of Leonov and Kabasov that NASA's Johnson Space Center used from 1974-75. They were mostly used on their official 8x10" ASTP Prime Crewmen lithos of all five crewmen, which included autopens of the three U.S. crewmembers as well. I have both matrix types along with a facsimile or printed format, too, that the Soviets allowed NASA to use. |

I agree with Ken that the autographs are all authentic. They were possibly applied in person at an ASTP post-flight event (The crews made many good-will appearances together in many countries) and may have hastily applied their autographs while standing up. But while authentic, it's a poor presentation of their autographs, with only Brand's autograph well-applied and typical for him, and many collectors would understandably considerer the autographs on this cover suspect. |
