Opinions on this Apollo 10 patch concept drawing sold by Lunar Legacies in 2018?
Early drawing of the Apollo 10 mission emblem and the emblem itself is 8"x 9". I don't know if this was an original concept drawing or something else. Folded, but good shape.

Per an earlier article by Ed Hengeveld here on cS, the insignia was designed by Allen Stevens of Rockwell International.

Are the initials at the bottom GES, QES, or something else?

Could it be "©AS", i.e. "Copyright Allen Stevens"?

Initial are definitely ES. Possible that "Al" Stevens had a first name that started with E?

I had two Al Stevens concept paintings for the Apollo X logo. That drawing is not his work. Looks like someone's copy of the insignia.

No, just no. Allen Stevens was a very talented artist, and even his "concept" designs were very meticulously executed. Especially his lettering. (See the images about halfway down the Apollo 10 page on my site.)

Anyone who seriously believes that this childish drawing might possibly have been done by Stevens really knows nothing about art or patches. Sorry for being harsh, but this is just silly. Invaluable should really be ashamed for offering this at auction. Even the auction title is absurd: "Early Artist Drawing..." This was not drawn by an artist ... at least, not one older than 10.

Have to agree that it seems a bit irresponsible to sell/auction this as an early artist concept with absolutely no basis and provenance (that I can see) to make that claim. Also have to agree that the talent looks to be lacking, a bit.

Did Al Stevens have a child with ES initials?

I agree with the above assessments. My very first impression was that this is most likely the work of a child.

The question in my mind is, who wrote the auction description? Unfortunately, cases like this can cast doubts as to the accuracy of Invaluable’s other write-ups.
