I am planning on getting the below aircraft discrepancy and work record framed with a bunch of other Alan Shepard items and wanted check if others thought it was an authentic Alan Shepard signature. I obtained this from a seller on eBay about 8 years ago. They said it was purchased from RR Auction in 2012 but I could not find a record on their website. The date on it seems to be 14 December 1961, which is interesting itself. Appreciate and feedback.

An interesting piece as I have a few of the same-type aircraft discrepancy reports. The notations in his areas to be filled out appears to be in Shepard's own hand, however, his signatures on the paperwork at Langley AFB in 1961 resembles a later-type autograph pattern of his a few years later. But in my opinion, still authentic.

Thanks for your reply Ken. Yes I compared his handwriting in the areas filled out to a letter he wrote to his parents when he was chosen to be an astronaut. Its appears to be the same. I'm now confident its authentic and will go ahead and frame it up. Should look great with the other things I have collected over the years. |

I concur (not that I'm one of the top 100 people to ask) that it's genuine, and a great item. I love aviation documents signed by astronauts, and I'll bet it's possible to obtain a set of those exact reports signed by all of the Mercury 7. I have three without trying too hard, and I've seen ones from most of the others. I think yours is the first Shepard, though! |
