Some authentication services don't even have an autopen pattern at hand before the authenticate autographs: Wernher von Braun autopen
Unfortunately the seller can't be even contacted as eBay says the seller does not take any messages? Is that a new policy by eBay to prevent any communication?

100% autopen. I have the same photo but in color with the same autopen:

I was able to send a message to the seller. Go all the way to the bottom of the listing and click on the ask a question link.

How many von Braun autopen variants are known to exist... or is there only one?

There are two known though as always there could be slight variants with his autopen as well. There are a few distinctive traits in his autopen signature that makes it fairly easy to recognize (obviously not for the major authentication services).

This one I found several months ago. It is an unknown pattern, with all characteristics of an autopen.

Could it be that this is rather an autopen traced by someone, Dirk?

I've seen that style before as well...could be indeed rather a forgery based on an Autopen.
