I have several unflown shuttle patches and was wondering whether they are as rare or significant as the STS-51G Jarvis-Walker example. They include STS-51E Challenger patch with Baudry instead of the eventual STS-51D "Discovery" patch including Walker. MOD mission STS-51C without Payton tacked on to the bottom of the patch. And STS-88 without Krikalev. Any feedback would be appreciated. I am looking to sell the patches in question and would like some idea of the prices achieved from previous sales. |

These are not anywhere near the Jarvis-Walker league. The 51E is nice to have and can sell for $15 to $30+. The other two are fairly common and not worth a great deal. |

I have to agree with Chris here Rick. I actually sold a 51E last week on eBay for $15. The other two probably wont even sell for that amount. They actually are quite common but still very nice to have and they deserve a place in any good shuttle collection. |

Why does 51C not have a value of being a limited rare patch without the tab? Was there an abundance produced before the mission change? Is 51E without the tab viewed as a limited production, rare or an error patch? |

What about the original STS-101 crew patch, the Anderson STS-118 patch and the no tab STS-117 patch. Oh and the pilot change STS-113 patch. Where do they stand in rarity. I'm guessing NOT. But I'm curious too. |

You are guessing correctly, although an official STS-113 Loria is one I have never seen. That one could be worth something. |

Before STS-88 change to add the Russian, are there any existing STS-88 decals printed with the original five crew? |

Well, here is my Loria version STS-113 Patch...and please don't tell me it's Randy Hunt or some other knock off like the STS-114 original I thought I had. I got this one before the flight I believe. |

From what I just read in a Phillip Baker book titled "Manned Space Stations," a Loria with Thomas 113 patch is quite rare. Thomas was also replaced by Pettit, which I forgot. This is the patch listed beside the flown patch on the spacepatches.nl index of shuttle mission patches. Exact version. Any thoughts? |

I'm sorry to say but that STS-113 Loria / Thomas patch is one that Randy Hunt produced. |

Per AB Emblem at the time, they hadn't begun production of the STS-113 patch when the Loria and Thomas crew changes were made, so there was never an AB Emblem version of the patch with their names. There were a limited number of Expedition 6 patches with Thomas (rather than Pettit). AB Emblem reported they destroyed most of them. |

Maybe I will just sell all my patches and start over and buy directly from AB Emblem. They're more expensive, but at least you know what you are getting. I think his patches should be rounded up and locked away on a deserted island of misfit patches! |

Herrington has a Loria/Thomas 113 emblem on his WSS portrait, although I suspect its a paper decal rather than a patch. Anybody else from the crew photographed with it, perhaps on their L/ES? |

Did Randy Hunt make his own version of all the shuttle mission patches up until his passing? I have two STS-98's and I strongly suspect one of them is his. Does all his mission patches have a black look to the reverse? This one does and the STS-113 Loria/Thomas and the so-called original STS-114. |

As far as an STS-118 "Anderson" patch I would have to say that it is now rare. I had a time locating one. I finally came across a lot of 28 patches and it had one in it. Thankfully I was able to purchase the entire lot at a reasonable price. The other two "Anderson" patches sold in excess of $20. I have purchased two STS-117 patches without Anderson on the tab for a very low price but I have notice finding one lately has become difficult so I am glad I got the two I have. AB does not produce them anymore so yes they should be considered rare. However we as patch collectors, like most collectors set the price and their potential value that will fluctuate over time. |
