I purchased a framed and matted John Glenn autograph at a local flea market several days ago. The autograph cut is slightly faded and reads "Best Wishes John Glenn Jr". I've seen many John Glenn autographs however, not many with "Jr". Does this indicate its older then others, or could it be an autopen? Thanks for the help. |

More likely an older signature from his Project Mercury years and probably genuine. The pioneer astronaut legend did in fact sign "Jr." with different formats, such as; "John H. Glenn, Jr." JHGlenn,Jr., but rarely with "John Glenn Jr." Can you provide a scan for us here? |

I may be mistaken, but I do not believe an autopen pattern exists (or least has been identified as such) that includes "Jr" as part of Glenn's signature. |

True, Robert, but there had been more than one "printed" pattern by NASA during the early 1960s along with a few unusual US Senate imprints of his name. I was more concerned with a possible forgery than with an autopen. |

This is an authentic early John Glenn autograph. He signed "J H Glenn, Jr" in the early 1960's. I have a letter and a Project Mercury stamp FDC with the same signature which I obtained through the mail from Glenn in 1963 or 1964. |

I agree. The signature and the writing perfectly match Glenn's style from the early-to-mid 60s. Assuming it's not some sort of pre-printed item or a reproduction/copy, then it appears this is an authentic item.Granted, this signature is probably only worth $20-30 on a blank piece of paper, but the nice framed display makes it much more attractive and bumps up the value somewhat. |
