I was thinking of buying this signed photo of Harrison Schmitt on the moon on eBay at the minute and I was just wondering, is the signature authentic? |

In my opinion it's very awkward to see from that scan, get the seller to email you some better scans of the signature. It looks very close to all the Schmitt signed items I have through signings at Novaspace, but it's also similar to a couple of the autopen patterns. Try asking him where he obtained it and get some close ups. |

Agreed. Could be authentic or an autopen, but the picture is not clear enough to tell. |

I have asked the seller for close-up photos of the signature - will post when he replies! |

The seller failed to respond to my emails and accepted someone else's best offer. However, I am quite relieved because I have looked into it further, and the signature looks very like the first autopen example of Schmitt's in this guide. |

Yeah, the odds are (no way to know for sure) that if he didn't respond to you and then accepted an offer (his starting bid was very low for an authentic Schmitt), then he knew or suspected that it was an autopen. |

I'm new to this, but pretty sure this is handwritten. I welcome your opinions.
Editor's note: Threads merged as it is the same item. |

I was going to purchase the item but the seller didn't reply to my emails and so accepted your offer first for a quick deal.Afterwards, I came to the conclusion that it was an autopen so I was a bit relieved, but we'll see what the others think on the matter...

In my opinion it's genuine, not an Autopen. It's fairly close to his pattern 2 but there are distinct differences in detail and layout, and the overall look is that of a natural signature. |

I didn't see your [this] original thread, sorry if you were interested. The seller never said anything about another buyer. Thanks for your input, but to the naked eye, you can see it is a natural signature in better pictures. |
