Any information about these would be appreciated. I will tell you what I've been told.

The orange flight suit, signed "Buzz Aldrin / Apollo XI / July 20th '69," was sold at Superior Auctions in 1991 or 1992. Does anyone have a copy of the description of this signed flight suit in the auction catalogue that he/she would be willing to scan and eMail (or fax) a copy to me?

Does anyone know anything specific about this flight suit supposedly worn by Aldrin in training for Apollo 11? When it was worn? Where? (Houston? Florida?) Would someone have a photo or know where I may find a photo of Aldrin wearing it?

The metallic moon plaque reproduction supposedly belonged to Aldrin. It measures 7-1/2" by 5-3/4" and is framed. It was given to guests at the (captioned) "President's Dinner Honoring Apollo 11 Astronauts / August 13, 1969" at the Century Plaza hotel in Los Angeles, and was supposedly signed at the dinner by Neil Armstrong, Ed Mitchel, M Collins, Omar N Bradley, Buzz Aldrin, and Richard Nixon.

It was said to be sold at Superior in November 1991 (lot #43). Again, does anyone have a copy of the description of lot 43 in the November 1991 auction catalogue that he/she would be willing to scan and eMail (or fax) a copy to me?

Thank you. Any help would be appreciated. — Herman Darvick

Orange flight suits were generally worn at sea, so this would be during landing (training) or emergency sea landing training.

That is a CWU-1/P flight suit. These were generally for colder weather or higher altitude flying. They came in dark blue, several greens, and indian orange. Hopefully not for use in Houston or Florida, but just general flying.

In one of my favorite astronaut photos (NASA image S61-01250) you can see everyone is just about wearing something different. Note all the different boot types!

The military used many different types of flight suits. Some were orange. It is very unlikely the fellows in the photo who appear to be in the tropics wore a nylon flight suit. More than likely they wore the K-2B light weight flight suit. It was a single layer of cotton and much more tolerable in tropical conditions.

Is there a tag on the flight suit? I know NASA had Flite Wear by Land MFG Co. make the blue flight suits and jackets from that time, earlier blue flight suits from 1963 were made by Foster Originals and the Mustard Flight suits were made by Kings Point MFG Co.

All times are CT (US)
