Gemini 8 50th Anniversary CommemorativeThe challenge with this patch was to not only depict the first docking of two spacecraft in Earth orbit but also the malfunction that spun the craft out of control and endangered the crew in a way that could be embroidered.
Space enthusiasts will recognize the inspiration provided by the STS-134 patch. This shape allowed me to depict Gemini 8 spinning and rotating.
The mission icon of Roman numerals includes a reference to the 50th anniversary. Neil Armstrong's name is in gold thread because he was a former Naval Aviator. David Scott's is in silver to represent his service in the USAF.
This design was created by Tim Gagnon of Titusville, FL and Jorge Cartes of Madrid, Spain.
