For sale, a 1999 Bandai "Heroes of Space" box set autographed by the three astronauts whose action figures they are: Alan Bean, Charlie Duke and Pete Conrad.Duke added the inscription, "Reach for the Stars" and "Apollo 16." Conrad tragically died in July 1999, which is why not many of these sets were signed by all three. The box is not in mint condition. There are dents and creases. The window where it is signed and the front of the box in general is mostly in good shape. Asking $450, domestic shipping included, or best offer. Payment by PayPal. |

A super cool item that I could never bring into my house. My son would tear into that toy within seconds! |

Not the kind of thing I typically collect, but this is really pretty cool. Extra special considering the inclusion of Conrad. |

Neat! A question though: With Bean and Conrad, wouldn't it have made more sense to have made (and included) a Gordon figure? |

My understanding was they couldn't get permission from Gordon to do a complete Apollo 12 set for some reason. Maybe someone here knows more on that. quote: Originally posted by 4allmankind: A super cool item that I could never bring into my house. My son would tear into that toy within seconds!
Yeah, and though my Dad never collected toys, if that'd been me as a kid doing that, my parents would have torn into ME in seconds! |

I believe they wanted to begin the series with moonwalkers. If I recall correctly, Gordon was slated for the second round of figures, which would have also included space shuttle payload specialist Charlie Walker. The "Heroes of Space" brand belonged to the company started by Pete and Nancy Conrad. In addition to the action figures, which also came individually packaged with Ban Dai's "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers," there was also a pop-up book produced under the brand. From what I understand, Conrad's tragic passing put an end to the project. |
