I won lot 40066 in the last Heritage auction for the 23 Apollo 9 flown parchment paper quotes from Rusty Schweickart - each individually hand signed and flight certified. I bought the lot for a couple of specific quotes. I am offering the balance here on cS before posting to eBay. The quotes are in great shape, on a yellow/brown parchment paper, bordered in gold, and with black script font. The quotes are of various sizes, but most that are availalbe measure between 4"x3" and 4"x4" — just shy of the size of a flown state or country flag. The following quotes are still available: The following quotes are sold and no longer available: - Anonymous
- Elizabeth Barrett Browning
- Martin Buber
- Winston Churchill
- Truman Douglas
- John Evelyn
- Julian Huxley
- William James
- John F. Kennedy
- Lao-tse
- Robert Nathan
- Fredreich Nietzche
- Bishop John A. J. Robinson
- Bertrand Russell - Change quote
- Bertrand Russell - Curiosity quote
- Bertrand Russell - The main things quote
- Alfred Lord Tennyson
- Thorton Wilder - "Am I sure" quote
- Thorton Wilder - "It is in this sense" quote
- Thorton Wilder - "There is only one way" quote
For a limited time, I am offering each for $399, plus postage, to fellow cSers. Would frame up wonderfully with an on-orbit image from the mission, or would be perfect to get McDivitt and Scott to sign on each as well to complete the crew. First come, first serve on each quote. Please email me off list for scans. I will update the list as time goes on. I will offer here for a week, then place on eBay. |

I received mine and it is awesome! They are slightly smaller (mine was 4"x3") than a flown flag but really neat and unique items (at a good price too). If you collect flown Apollo items from the personal collections of astronauts, get one of these. Thanks rjurek! |

I fully concur with the above post. I purchased one of the Bertrand Russell quotes from Rich and it just arrived on New Year's Eve. I was pleasantly surprised as it was actually much more attractive than I had imagined. It definitely helped me to close out 2011 on a high note! If you can still find a quote that you like, I would highly recommend that you pick one up before they are all gone.

There are still a few left (the list above has been updated). So if you would like one of these, please contact me. For the last few, I am offering them with free postage, anywhere in the world. As you can see from the pics, they frame up nicely -- and are great, authentically flown personal items from Rusty's PPK. Each quote offered on a first come, first served basis. Thanks! |

Odd, Chris. I did respond. Might be a problem with my ameritech account. I sent you another follow up response just now via my google account. In any event, your quote is put aside for you. It is yours. For everyone else -- only three left. When they are gone, they are gone. Now only two left... |

Just a quick note to thank everyone who purchased quotes. They have all sold, except for the 3 I have retained in my collection. Many thanks to all who purchased. If you do an interesting display with your quote, would love to see it posted here like MrSpace86 did. Thanks again. |

OK! I bought Elizabeth Barrett Browning's poem that starts "How do I love thee? Let me count the ways" to give to my wife for Valentine's Day. (Which sounds like something from "You might be a space geek if...") At the top is a Schweickart-centric photo collage I made on Picassa. At the left is the first picture taken of Susanna and I together, and at the right is a picture of our family. (I blurred the sentiment a bit before putting it online.)

As a postscript to this sale, I saw Rusty at the recent Autographica event and had a little chat to him about these items. He said that both he and his wife had given a lot of thought to what they could do to commemorate Rusty's upcoming flight and they decided to search for their favorite quotes, to have them specially printed on small pieces of parchment and fly them in Rusty's PPK as souvenirs. Rusty also added that he actually took some of them with him in his spacesuit pocket when he did his EVA. When asked which ones he said he couldn't remember exactly as it was "a long time ago." Pity, but who knows, next time someone sees him perhaps you could jog his memory? |

I purchased one of these wonderful items from Richard back when they were first made available. Although I had already seen the documentary movie "Moonbug" (2010) at the time of purchase, I didn't remember that these parchment quotes were featured in the film. Having just recently viewed the movie again, I was quite surprised to see Rusty holding some of these and reading from them.Just wanted to mention it for anyone who may have one of these pieces in their collections. The scene in question starts about 36 minutes into the movie. |
