Has anyone had recent trouble trying to access the Farthest Reaches website? I keep trying to access the site and keep getting the message the website is not available. |

I just reached the site using Safari on a Mac (MacBook Pro). Apple supports all Adobe software on all Macs (Flash is only disabled on the iPad and iPhone). |

I think it might be some sort of firewall issue. I often have trouble accessing the site from work, but have no problems from my home computer. |

I too have problems accessing farthestreaches.com.As for the Flash reasons I am unable to access this site using either a iPad or iPod. I have never been able to access this site via work so yes most definitely is a firewall issue. From my home laptop I can access it most of the time but not always. I can access the homepage but after that I can not access any other pages on Farthest Reaches. I always put it down to my laptop or maybe Steve was updating his site. Glad to know other people are also having problems accessing this site. |

I'm not sure why I'm having these issues but my IT support does seem to be able to address them on a case by case basis. If anyone having problems getting on the site can email me their IP and email address, I am confident I can have your problem resolved. To find your IP address simply log into whatismyip.com. I apologize for the difficulty but promise it can resolve it for each and every one of you with that information. If I can't resolve these issues shortly will be switching to a new ISP. Also know that you can call or email. My cell phone is 310.892.5150 and home office 310.791.3700. I promise to reply promptly. Meantime, I am still taking preorders for Falling To Earth along with the first time published hand signed poem, "Rising From Earth". Thanks to all for your continued support. |

Apple is catching a lot of flack for choosing not to recognize Flash on their iPad, iPod and iPhones... while letting their regular OS use it. I wonder why they continue to resist this change? I've read how many people are incredibly pissed at this fact. |

Apple is ditching Flash because it's a lousy, buggy program. When your browser crashes (regardless of which browser you use), 9 times out of 10 it's because of Flash. HTML5 coding is the next generation of HTML programming, and it will handle Flash-like applications without crashing your browser. Like when it ditched floppy drives in the iMac despite no small criticism, Apple is ahead of the curve on this one. My two cents. So Steve, switching your entire site to HTML5 would solve the problem (and will eventually be inevitable), but I don't know how costly or time-consuming that will be. Your programmer (I'm not one so am only going by my reading of tech magazines) may have another simpler but equally effective solution. |

And with regards to why Flash is still on Mac desktops and laptops but not mobile devices, besides the fact that Apple has greater control (and greater responsibility) over what goes on to the latter, Flash eats memory like a hog, which on mobile devices (phones, tablets) translates to compromised battery life. Add to that the security holes that Flash introduces and the aforementioned fact that HTML5 can do everything Flash can do, and Apple has a solid set of reasons to forgo Flash on their iDevices. |

Just purchased a copy at Barnes & Noble to hold me over until my signed copies arrive. The copy reads First Edition 15 14 13 12 11 12345. This is a new one to me. Can any one explain this printing line and will the ones we ordered be 1st printings? |

Typically, the lowest number in the line is what your edition is for that particular printing. They can actually release different versions of the book and have multiple first editions. Usually, it will say that a previous edition exists, but not always. For example "Lost Moon" was released as "Apollo 13" and it states First Edition but also says previously published as Lost Moon. Both are still First Editions but the earlier one has more value (on the book market). You can also have limited editions that are within the First Editions and have a unique ISBN number. An example would be the Barbara Bush book that has an "s" after the ISBN for signed. This still states that it is a First Edition. With that said, I would assume that everything you currently see will be a "First Edition" |

There is a big difference between "editions" and the numbers that Tonyspace asked about. The numbers represent which printing of, in this case, the first edition your copy is. The smallest number (in your case "1") is what you look for. So you have a first edition, 1st printing, which is what book collectors like. Publishers don't like big print runs because they can end up with unsold books that after a few years get sold as "remainders" for pennies on the dollar. Remainders screw up the profitability of a title. So they print small runs and then go back to press as needed, each time eliminating a number so that the lowest number in the sequence is what print run that copy came from. |

That last post is correct. Books ordered and paid for will be shipped beginning right after Al's August 27th signing visit to Farthest Reaches. Thanks to all for your patience as Al makes his way cross country to California for this and other appearances. I promise you won't be disappointed in either the book OR the hand signed poem.Copies may still be ordered, so if interested don't hesitate to give us a call or email. Thanks to all for your continued support. |

Just an FYI. On Saturday, Al and Francis visited Farthest Reaches for our "Falling To Earth" signing. It was informal and enjoyable. The signing lasted several hours with Al and Francis both rising to the occasion despite their having had a very long day. In the end, all books were signed including requested personalizations. Now begins the task of packaging and mailing your pre-orders. The first load of packages were sent off today. I will continue to work as quickly as possible to process your orders. If anyone is needing their copy dispatched post haste, please drop me an email off list and I'll do what I can to meet your need for speed. We had close to 600 pre-orders and I thank you all for such amazing support. ------------------ Steve Hankow http://www.farthestreaches.com |

Thanks for the kind words. The next project is with Colin Burgess and involves his upcoming book. Look for the details on Farthest Reaches homepage in the next day or two. If you like the Worden insert, you'll love what we're doing with Colin's book dealing with selecting the Mercury Astronauts.Speaking of "Falling To Earth" and shipping, please know that I'm not Amazon.com. That is, unlike Amazon, I carefully pack each copy with my own hands. "Trust no one" is my motto when it comes to the packaging of your books. They are triple wrapped before being placed into a box or padded envelope. When it comes to book sales, I cater to collectors and as one myself, understand how important it is to have the book reach you in "new" condition. Given this, I work hard to do so and that takes a bit more time, so please be patient. The result will be more than worth it, I promise. As mentioned, have been packing and shipping like a madman since the signing and invite any of you who have time constraints to email and I'll make a special effort to meet your need for speed. Upon your receiving your copies would appreciate any feedback, good or otherwise regarding the complimentary insert. Your comments will guide me in the future as I put together more of these special packages. Thanks again to everyone who has supported this effort. I know you had a number of choices and appreciate the many of you who selected Farthest Reaches... |

Same here. As the saying goes "Good things come to those who wait" When I saw the first post about the book, I immediately could not wait to buy it. Apollo 15 (for some reason, I still don't know why. It's just a feeling) is my favorite Apollo mission apart from Apollo 7,8 and 11. Plus Ever since I repainted and cleaned my room (about three times in two months) I have a lot of room to fill on my bookcase of space books. |
