It is covered in hyper-velocity micrometeoroid impacts which has created a beautiful patterna on it (Space Junk | Close Up Pictures.).It must have been attached to the outside of the spacecraft for a reasonable time. Due to the criss cross pastern (left on the surface when the mounting straps burnt off during re-entry) I assume that it is from a Foton, Vostok or Bion Spacecraft.
It measures 350mm diameter and weighs 7.5 KG.
It appears to be machined by a lathe or mill from two sold blocks of titanium and then welded together. They don't make them like that anymore. It is in excellent condition.
The numbers 015293 and 98 3 are stamped in to the flats of each connection point. Could it be identified by these numbers?
It is almost identical to the ones as shown here, here, here, http://www.lyonandturnbull.com/asp/fullcatalogue.asp?salelot=262++++++171+&t=1797339&[/UR L] and [URL=http://www.space.com/peopleinterviews/satellite_auction_000214.html]here but without explosion damage.
Its connection point is fitted with a high precision thread that still works so perfectly that, when done up finger tight, creates an airtight seal without an "o" ring or thread sealant.
This would make a great funerary urn for any serious space collector! You may even be able to get it launched into deep space!
Offers around $4000 US will be considered.
