Coming in 2005: "First Man"" The authorized biography of astronaut Neil Armstrong SIGNED by author James HansenWe are especially pleased to announce that we will be carrying copies of this important biography SIGNED by the author James Hansen. This work is a notable achievement in that Armstrong cooperated with the author and provided extensive interview time to assist in the completion of the biography. We are honored that Dr. Hansen has agreed to personally sign copies of this forthcoming work. While the final details have not yet been released, we do know that the book will be issued as a hardbound volume with dust jacket and the pricing will likely be between $25 and $30. Through the courtesy of the author, we will offer this at the list price that the publisher establishes. Of course, as with all hardbound books with dust jackets, we will add an archival sleeve at no extra charge. Dr. Hansen is a well known and well qualified author in the aerospace field. In addition, the motion picture rights for this book have already been sold. This will no doubt be one of (if not) the most significant of the astronaut biographies. While we cannot show you a cover image or furnish details at this point, we do want to make you aware of the book and begin the preorder process. To preorder, click on the shopping cart button on this page and complete the form. Your order will be confirmed by email and we will be back in touch by email closer to the time the book is released to let you know the final retail price. Finally, to reduce the number of email questions we expect to receive in response to this offer, we understand that just about everyone would like a copy of this new biography signed by Neil Armstrong in addition to the author! So for the record, let us say that at this time, we are taking preorders for the book signed only by James Hansen, the author! Preorder now at http://boggsspace.com/mall/first_man.asp Best wishes, Donald & Tamara Boggs Boggs SpaceBooks |

...all I can say is I'm going to pre-purchase on the off chance that it could happen. At least if not, I'll have the book in 1st edition. |

All depends on which Armstrong you want to sign your book... there's a good number on eBay to choose from. |

We will say this. No reasonable person should expect Neil Armstrong to sign a few thousand copies of the new biography (let alone) at list price! But, having said that, it would be nice. ------------------ Donald & Tamara Boggs Boggs SpaceBooks http://boggsspace.com |

Isn't it a 'tradition' for a person to 'sign' their autobiography? In this case, if he did, I'm sure the 'fee' would be substantial - but wouldn't he be obligated to at least entertain the idea of signing copies of his book? Obligated might not be the correct word, but I think it would be odd if he decided not to sign any copies for the public. Either way, it'll be a great read and I'm thankful he has made the choice to have a book written in the first place. Rizz |

Hi Rizz,You're right that people usually sign their autobiography, but this is only Armstrong's authorized biography. So he gets out of this one on a technicality. Rats... Cheers, Matt ------------------ www.spaceracemuseum.com |

Being a fan of test flight, I look forward to actually reading this book! Neil flew the X-5, the X-15 and maybe even a late version of the X-1 (E)? if I recall. Plus he flew as a drop pilot and even co-piloted during an in-flight emergency during one drop flight.I am really looking forward to reading this book. If Neil wants to stop by and sign a few copies great, but I think the story will be a lot of fun. Who knows, maybe there will be a chapter about not signing on the flag! ------------------ Warm Regards Douglas Henry Enjoy yourself and have fun.... it is only a hobby! |

Doug, you are right, Neil did fly one of the advanced models of the X-1 but it was the X-1B. Neil made four (the last four) flights in the X-1B. He was also the only pilot that flew it equiped with hydrogen-peroxide thrusters to validate control methods for the X-15 and Mercury programs. The X-1E was the result of feedback and design work carried out by the NACA personnel including Scott Crossfield. Incidentally, the X-1E (redesigned and constructed from the second X-1, #6063 and first X-1 to fly under power) was only ever flown by Joe Walker who nicknamed it "Little Joe".My best regards, Derek |
