Why speculate when you can ask the winning bidder? Or better still, the seller? |

If my speculation is right, (and I think it is) all I'd get from the bidder or seller is a runaround, or no response at all. As I'm not bidding, it's not worth my time. My reason for posting was to alert any potential bidders that THEY may want to ask more questions before getting involved with this (3rd go-round of this) item. -chet [This message has been edited by chet (edited December 09, 2003).] |

Don't be surprised to see this suddenly close just before it ends if it doesn't get the bids it has in the past. James |

So, why doesn't anyone turn this guy into ebay for investigation? |

Someone probably would if they thought eBay would actually do something about it. I'm just glad eBay isn't fighting the War on Terror. |

For what its worth, I contacted the winning bidder (it wasn't very hard) and she explained she was buying it for her husband but when he found out for how much, he refused the gift. The seller allowed her out of the sale in return for paying his eBay fees. Now, that could just be a story or that could be the truth, but the point is BEFORE you speculate publicly on what might or might not be happening, you should always try to collect as much information as possible. Simply writing off research with a "sour grapes" excuse that it would probably be bad information anyway demonstrates a lack of real interest into finding out what happened. Sorry Chet, I don't mean for these comments to be directed specifically at you but I appreciate your understanding as to why I would use your post as an example. The boards will always be here. Feel free to take all the time you need before posting to get the full story... |

Robert, with all due respect, I don't think it's practical to investigate every questionable transaction on Ebay, or elsewhere on the net for that matter, before posting information here that might be useful to interested parties. As a wrote, I posted my suspicions so as to alert potential bidders that there were some unusual circumstances associated with the offering of this item. I was very careful not to slander or accuse anyone involved. I'm not offended that you used me to make your point, as I know your intentions are always good, but I disagree with the premise that it's always necessary to investigate any particular matter fully before suppositions can be made. -chet |

You guys are perhaps some of the cattiest people I have ever listened to.Once again, I am the seller of this flag and I did buy it from biblioctopus. The first round on the flag, it did not hit $9800 reserve. Second time a lady won it and she said her hubby did not want it as much as she thought. I let her out for my ebay fees. Why has no one mentioned that i have over 1600 positive feedbacks. Anyway, its back up for round three and its private this time because I felt it was more approppriate with an expensive item. |

Unfortunate that you didn't redo the scan at ebay when you were relisting. Give any marketing tricks a rest. kosb [This message has been edited by LunarRover (edited December 10, 2003).] |

Hello Everyone,In Robert's defense, I have discussed this flag with him and don't believe anything shady or underhanded has been going on here. He's serious about wanting to sell this flag and besides, who can really complain when he dresses up our screens with his talented model. She's sure a lot more fun to look at than the reflection of this ugly mug coming from my desktop monitor ------------------ Steve Hankow http://www.farthestreaches.com |

To Robert, the seller of this flag, welcome. With all due respect, I don't think "cattiness" is as applicable as "wariness". There are so many shady sellers and selling practices on Ebay that caution is ALWAYS called for. The fact that this is the 3rd time this flag is being offered is enough of a "red flag" for any potential bidders to consider that there may be more going on than meets the eye. I believe that, in this instance, you are probably just the victim of some unfortunate but fairly normal Ebay circumstances, but anyone dealing with Ebay should always be "heads up" because of the enormous scamming that takes place there on an HOURLY basis. True, you have great feedback, (with high numbers), but experienced bidders know excellent feedback ratings can be amassed by even the shadiest of sellers. I'm NOT saying you are not a good seller, or that your goods are sub-par, but that bidders, especially ones interested in autographed or vintage materials, need to be especially aware of any situation that looks unordinary, for whatever the reason. -chet
