On Tuesday (Feb. 11), the United Nations recognized the 10th International Day of Women and Girls in Science with a panel discussion featuring women astronauts. An astronaut-led panel to highlight the contributions of women and girls in science, and the importance of ensuring that they are safe from gender-based violence and gender discrimination. Among the speakers were Cady Coleman (STS-73, STS-93, Soyuz TMA-20, ISS 26/27), Jeanette Epps (SpaceX Crew-8, ISS 70/71), Amelie Schoenenwald (ESA reserve astronaut candidate) and Sian Proctor (Inspiration4), as well as actor Terry Crews and Bill Nye, director of The Planetary Society.Other astronauts were scheduled to attend included: Sirisha Bandla (VSS Unity 22), Lina Borozdina (Galactic-06), Nicolina Elrick (Blue Origin NS-26), Jamila Gilbert (Unity 25), Sharon Hagle (Blue Origin NS-20, Blue Origin NS-28), Karsen Kitchen (Blue Origin NS-26), Dottie Metcalf-Lindenburger (STS-131), Audrey Powers (Blue Origin NS-18) and Keisha Schahaff (Galactic-02). |
