Astronaut Hall of Fame to add shuttle vets David Hilmers and Marsha Ivins in June

Although they never flew in space together, astronauts David Hilmers and Marsha Ivins crossed paths aboard the same spacecraft on the same mission.

On Tuesday (Feb. 6), Hilmers and Ivins were announced as the next honorees to enter the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame. The two NASA veterans will be celebrated at a public ceremony on June 1 under the retired space shuttle Atlantis at NASA's Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in Florida.

Astronaut Scholarship Foundation (ASF) notice
Due to the anticipated traffic due to the [Boeing Starliner Crew Flight Test] launch and in consideration of the ceremony program, Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex and ASF will be starting the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at 10:30 a.m.
The ceremony will not be streamed live, but it is being recorded and should become available sometime after the event for those who cannot attend.

Shuttle fliers David Hilmers, Marsha Ivins enter Astronaut Hall of Fame

This year's U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame induction ceremony was also a reunion of sorts, as the two honorees took to the stage under the spacecraft on which they once crossed paths.

NASA's Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in Florida hosted the ceremony under its display of the retired space shuttle Atlantis on Saturday (June 1). A full house of former astronauts, space program officials and the public were there to see David Hilmers and Marsha Ivins be added to the hall's ranks.
