This will be the first space panel and vendor show by the new Hyatt Place in Titusville, Florida, next week on April 16 with astronaut speakers, launch directors, and other Space Age officials and personalities. We're hoping for a good turnout.Space vendor and memorabilia specialist Ken Havekotte and his wife Theresa will be among the main show vendors. Attendees are welcome to bring in their own space memorabilia items for appraisal evaluations at no charge by Ken, long-time owner of SpaceCoast Cover Service on Merritt Island. If anyone is planning to attend and has a request in seeing specific space material, let us know in advance so that hopefully we can have such material on hand for examinations. At our tables will be two binders of autograph material, flown in space items, space cloth patches, decal stickers, postal space covers that include recent crewed SpaceX and Blue Origin flights, pins, medallions, pinbacks, and a big space grab box with rock-bottom prices to sell. |

What a great turnout for ShuttleFest 1 in celebrating the Golden Anniversary of the Dawn of the Space Shuttle Era (also the 50th launch anniversary of Apollo 16) at the new Hyatt Place in Titusville, FL, on April 16.Presented by the American Space Museum & Space Walk of Fame along with The Astronauts Memorial Foundation, it was a great day with well-over 200 space fans that attended the full day panel talks by two former shuttle astronauts, along with two additional astronaut visits, and with other Space Age officials and personalities giving presentations all throughout the exciting day, open free to the public. Famed shuttle launch commentator and former NASA public affairs director Hugh Harris of the Kennedy Space Center kicked off the ShuttleFest with opening remarks at 9 am as the Master of Ceremonies. I was able to catch a few of his remarks, however, as one of the event sponsor-vendors, I had to get back to our vendor tables outside in the hotel lobby. It was a long day for us with my wife Theresa helping at my side, but a lot of fun, in seeing many dear space friends and meeting new space fans of all ages. Unfortunately, we had no time in getting some photos of the event, not even at our own vendor site area, because of the nearly constant flow of folks stopping by at our tables in talking "space," viewing and buying space memorabilia. Maybe a member of cS that attended might be willing to share here some of his/her pictures of the event. Theresa and I would like to extend a big thanks to Karen Conklin, the executive director of the ASM/&SWOF, ShuttleFest coordinator Mark Marquette, Stay Curious video podcaster Marty Winkel, sound controller Mike Reynaldo, and to the staff of the Hyatt Place. There will be a second ShuttleFest, now planned for April 15, 2023, so make your plans to attend this new and exciting space festival on the Florida Space Coast. | |
