Space Lectures is delighted to announce that its guest for April 2016 has been confirmed and the contract signed. As promised, we will announce the name at the Jim Lovell event in October. Until then, we can confirm that our guest is a moonwalker and a first time visitor to Space Lectures — one not to be missed! Update: April's guest will be Apollo 17 commander Gene Cernan. See below. Update for April 6: Due to a health concern, Gene Cernan is unable to travel to the UK. His Apollo 10 crewmate, Thomas Stafford, will be attending in his place. Space Lectures has over the years developed a core of regulars that attend every show regardless of who the guest may be and regardless of the price (within reason). As a consequence, by the time you read this notice approximately 45 dinner places will remain so please... contact Ken Willoughby directly to confirm ticket availability on 01977 795535 or via e-mail before sending any payment; bacs or otherwise. He is unable to deal with third parties. If you use a withheld phone number you may get Ken's answer machine. Please leave a message and in all likelihood Ken will pick up. Only upon confirmation of ticket availability will Ken accept bacs or cheque payments for April. Please be sure to include your name and address and remember to add £1.00 to cover p&p or your tickets will not be dispatched. If paying by cheque please include a self-addressed envelope. Dinner will be held on Friday, April 8, 2016 at the Wentbridge House Hotel in Pontefract. The photo-shoot will last for 45 minutes commencing at 6.00 p.m. Guests will be seated for dinner by 7.00 p.m with a raffle, auction and signing to follow. The lecture will be held at Carleton Community High School on Saturday, April 9, 2016. Photo-shoot from 2.30 p.m. to 3.45 p.m. The one hour lecture will start at 4.00 p.m. with a 20 minute Q&A, a raffle and the signing to follow. Ticket prices (inclusive of one autograph per ticket) are as follows. Lecture £95, dinner £115; unfortunately, on this occasion there is no combination ticket option. Photo shoot will be £30 per photo, regardless of how many people are in the picture. Ken is conscious that these prices are slightly higher than for Capt. Lovell but our April guest will be giving one lecture only, not two. A complete sell out of all tickets of themselves is not sufficient to cover the cost of this event. When Ken confirms the name you will all appreciate both the need for the modest price rise and the huge value for money that these prices represent when compared to the current value of this moonwalker's signature. Tickets for Capt. Lovell sold out very quickly. With only one lecture we expect the same for April. |

Rooms have been an issue for April all along; there is a wedding on that weekend. But Ken's options for dates have been limited due to our guest's schedule. There are plenty of alternate hotels in the area happy to accommodate. |

I was thoroughly enjoying the many debates about who the guest will be during the social mixing before and after the InspireSpace Walt Cunningham event last weekend. There was certainly a mix of opinions, but two things were certain (i) we know this will be a rare opportunity for a seldom seen in the UK/Europe Moonwalker and (ii) the majority, including myself, had already booked tickets! Finally, I have to agree with some comments made by other cS members; can we start wearing name tags at these events. I would love to put some faces to all these like-minded names. |

Several people have asked whether Prof Brian Cox will be attending the event in April. He has agreed "in principle."Just 7 dinner tickets now remain and 250 lecture tickets have now sold also. |

Why host an event at a hotel/venue no-one can get a room at? |

Far more guests attend the dinner than there are rooms in the hotel. To the best of my knowledge, there is no Radisson or Hilton equivalent in the area that could accommodate everybody wanting a room so a compromise is inevitable.Just an observation but if I was to book a concert or theatre event anywhere in the country I wouldn't expect the event organiser to sort my accommodation. This is Ken's event and it is not unreasonable that he would want it in his own back yard. The area is well served by alternate accommodation, many of which are cheaper than the Wentbridge: cheap enough to cover the taxi fare to the venue. Demand for tickets is such that Ken has asked those who got in touch requesting tickets to please send payment asap. It is my understanding the our speaker's fee will be paid in installments the first of which will soon be upon us. Ken hopes to have tickets for April printed in time for the Lovell event so those that have paid for them already can collect in person. |

Maybe we should meet up in the refreshment area? I did wear my collectSPACE logo to the Walt Cunningham event. |

Yikes! Just 3 dinner tickets for April remain. One word of advice. Ken has set aside tickets for some who having made their enquiry have promised to send payment but have yet to do so. That is understandable as we only confirmed the event 7 days ago! But demand for this event is such that there will come a time fairly quickly when Ken will have to say to himself. "I can't hold on to these tickets without payment any longer - installments on the fee have to be met." "You can't bank a promise," as my old boss would say and a second lecture is not an option unfortunately. So please, if you have asked Ken for tickets, send payment as soon as possible. Thanks guys! Tickets for April can be ordered in person at the Lovell event and Ken will mail them out the following week but by the end of this month it is safe to say the dinner will be long sold out and possibly the lecture also. |

Dinner for the April moonwalker event is now SOLD OUT!Only lecture tickets remain and they too are going fast. A message from Ken re hotel rooms at Wentbridge for April: "Just been speaking to Nicola and there are a few rooms available for April but people should ring first." |

Thank you to everybody who contacted Ken before placing ticket orders. But if you are one of those who ordered tickets but have yet to send payment please note that Ken will not hold on to your tickets indefinitely. Please send payment asap. There is now a waiting list for the April dinner and if payment is not sent soon then Ken will sell reserved tickets to the next in line.

Tickets for April's event have been printed. People who have paid for their tickets already can collect them in person from Ken at the Lovell event. It might be an idea to bring some ID or perhaps e-mail correspondence as proof of purchase.Ken will also take orders with payment in person over that weekend. Only lecture tickets remain. The dinner is sold out. He has asked that all ticket enquiries are made via e-mail, phone or in person; he is unable to take orders placed via Twitter or posted on this forum. Anyone coming to the Saturday/Sunday who will be coming off the M62 should allow another ten minutes due to alterations to the traffic lights at the Town end.

Three quarters of the lecture tickets for April have now been sold. In a little under two weeks time you will know the name our moonwalker guest and it is likely any remaining tickets will then be snapped up PDQ.Ken will then start collating the names of those awaiting possible cancellations. Might I suggest that tickets ordered for April be paid for in full... quickly. If payments are dragged out too long it is likely Ken will let those tickets go to others on the "waiting list." |

The cat is out the bag. Space Lectures guest for April 2016 is Capt. Eugene Cernan: the last man to walk on the moon. After a hugely successful weekend spent with Capt. Lovell I am not sure whether ANY tickets remain for April next. So please, if interested, e-mail Ken Willoughby before placing any ticket order. |

Capt. Cernan will be giving one lecture only come April. While the speed at which tickets sold out is great for the organisers I can sympathise with some who sadly missed out. I posted a heads up over a month ago and I synchronized my post with Mrs OWL who runs the twitter site; there has been no lack of notice. Sept. 24th: "Tickets for Capt. Lovell sold out very quickly. With only one lecture we expect the same for April." We will shortly be launching a new website in order to provide a more inclusive service. The volunteer Space Lectures team member responsible has been working away from home for most of the last year. |

Looks like I missed out on seeing Gene — but have to say that the Jim Lovell day on Sunday will never be forgotten - and I got to meet Rick M too... 33 years after we first corresponded. And I got Jim to sign the earthrise photo Rick had sent me in 1982 - full circle and quite a day! |

Simon. It was great to meet you after all these years and I was quite touched you still had the litho I had sent 33 years ago. Thanks for making me fee old. I'm only sorry it took me a while to cotton on when you introduced yourself when we met in the photo room. By that time my brain was toast; makes a change from the usual mush I suppose. |

No worries Rick - you looked very busy and had a lot more on your mind! Was a great day. I do have a question. As with the Lovell lecture, if tickets do become available for the Cernan event, say if someone cannot make the event, how would any of us possibly get hold of those tickets or be on a list to be contacted to get hold of those tickets? I am gutted I missed out on the Cernan lecture. |

Ken usually notifies Mrs OWL (she runs the Space Lectures twitter site) and myself. We then post about any tickets that crop up. All I can suggest is that you stay close to both: Twitter and collectSPACE. |

The Gene Cernan event in April is sold out. But for those who took the leap of faith and bought tickets early... you now have the added bonus of Prof Brian Cox who has very kindly agreed to attend the Friday dinner and conduct the post lecture Q&A. |

Our resident fop top "sex symbol" David Jones will host the lecture. Brian will conduct the Q&A only.Prof. Cox is conducting the Q&A as a favour to Space Lectures. He is not under any contractual obligation. As much as we might like him to sign we suspect he would be mobbed: so to do so would be unreasonable under the circumstances. |
