That certainly fits the brief Dave. Nice. There are several contenders emerging with plenty of support for each. It's going to be a difficult choice. |

Not volunteering, as my Photoshop skills extend to removing selfie sticks from flying photos but this is my preferred Apollo 8 image that has spacecraft, Earth and Moon in it... |

Some nice background ideas and designs so far. Of the launches, I particularly like Gareth's Apollo 8, above. Here's a simple composition that allows Capt Lovell and guests to be main focus of the picture while the crisply defined craters of the moon, the ultimate destination of Apollo, frame the subjects. The image would be high resolution and I could adjust if required. I can just see this in a wide bordered black mount in a gloss black frame in my home office! |

Some great images so far. My personal favourite is the one just posted by Ironman. I think it would work really well.Just out of interest, how big are photos when printed? |

Hey guys, I'll be flying over from Ireland on the Saturday morning for Capt. Lovell's lecture, I foolishly missed out on the Friday dinner. Flights to and from Ireland and Leeds Bradford are a bit awkward so I'm thinking of staying on the Saturday night and possibly attending the second lecture on Sunday also.I'll be travelling alone and I was hoping to find out if there would be many people hanging around in Pontrefract on the Saturday night (and if there might be anything fun going on!) and where people are staying? I know it'd early days but I'm trying to decide if I should buy a second lecture ticket before they run out! Thanks guys!

Same backdrop design as above, but for illustration purposes here's Captain Lovell waiting to greet his photo-shoot guests. |

Apollo, Gemini, earth rise and moon backdrops have all been very nicely addressed by others so far, so I'm going in a different direction here with another simple backdrop inspired by the pre-flight, suited-up publicity photographs for the Apollo missions, as featured on the Space Lectures poster for the Lovell Lecture. I think there would be something quite fitting in Capt Lovell being back in front of a majestic star-field backdrop in this the 45th anniversary year of Apollo 13. I really like the colours too! There are a couple more images to follow and I've tried to ensure light areas for signing in black sharpie. |

Two Jim Lovells for the price of one, separated by 45 years in the 45th anniversary year of Apollo 13.The moon globe would be obscured by the people in the picture but it was easier to leave it in than it would have been to reconstruct Capt Lovell's missing arm. Mission patches may need re-sizing or relocating to accommodate group shots. I think I prefer the simpler backdrops but thought I'd throw this in as something a bit different. At least there would be no question about his occupation! |

Can anyone advise me how this usually works? I've sent a cheque to Ken for the Sunday event after email correspondence. Do I get sent a ticket? By email - I didn't give/wasn't asked for my address. When? Thank you. |

If Ken is given a postal address (with a sae or a £1 payment for postage) along with a ticket order... he will mail out the tickets. With regards your order Captain Apollo he tells me he has received neither a sae nor your postal address. Pop a sae in the mail to Ken with a covering note and he will gladly sort it. FWIW, Ken tells me 150 people have not included a sae, or added £1 for posting out tickets. If the 150 includes members reading this post... please sort it or you will have to collect your tickets on the door; bring ID. |

Several people have asked whether Prof Brian Cox will be conducting the Q&A following the Sunday, Nov. 1st lecture. We are hopeful that he can, but that will depend upon his busy schedule. It should be noted however that only 16 tickets now remain. I would not await Professor Cox's response before buying one of the last tickets. By the time we find out, one way or another, it is likely all the tickets will be sold. It is worth noting that Professor Cox has kindly agreed to support our event but is not there under any formal contractual basis. He will NOT be posing for any kind of photo shoot, nor will he be involved in the post lecture signing. Please ring Ken Willoughby before placing any ticket order or sending any BACS payment. Thank you! |

Thanks Ironman. Brian's support is greatly appreciated and an added bonus for everybody who booked a ticket for the Sunday lecture.By the time many of you read this thread all the tickets for Sunday will be gone. As of 5 minutes ago we had just six tickets left. Please contact Ken Willoughby before placing any further ticket orders and do not send any bacs payment until Ken has responded. It is lining up to be an outstanding event. |

Ladies and gentlemen by the time you read this, it is likely the Lovell event will be totally SOLD OUT!- Friday, Saturday and Sunday. At 7.30pm local time only 4 tickets remained. I know of at least two more sold since. I think we are now in the realms of people wanting tickets having to wait in the hope of a cancellation or two. To that end, drop Ken Willoughby an e-mail to register interest in such. Please be advised that all being well, Ken will announce his guest for April 2016 at the Lovell event (negotiations are ongoing), and while no names will be mentioned for the foreseeable future he has already secured his Apollo guest for October 2016. Ticket prices and dates for both will be posted just as soon as Ken lets me have them. Thank you for your continued support. |

After a great deal of deliberation... deliberation incidentally that discounted three designs of my own and two of Mrs OWLS, we have finally settled on the winning background for the James Lovell event in Pontefract, come October.gareth89 came up with this terrific image. Slightly tweaked from a previous incarnation with beautiful colours and plenty of light ground to take a bold black signature. A big thank you to everybody that posted designs. After a slow start the final decision was a tricky one. All being well, Gareth will be receiving his own bespoke signed portrait of Capt. Lovell with the compliments of Space Lectures. |

Ken Willoughby would like to express his appreciation to everybody that has contributed to the James Lovell event being a sell out.For the record ladies and gentlemen Ken has also told me the dates for his 2016 Apollo astronaut guests at the usual venues are as follows: - Guest no. 1 - Dinner April 8. April 9 for the lecture.
- Guest no. 2 - Dinner Oct. 7. Oct. 8 for the lecture.
At this stage I have no idea who they are. I have no idea as to the cost of tickets either. I would advise against making any payments or ordering any tickets until such time as we know who, and how much. |

Rick can you pass on my thanks to Ken for giving us the dates for next year's events. Personally the sooner I know the more chance I have of arranging time off work. Now that I have all the relevant dates booked off I'm looking forward to seeing who is announced. |

Three months from the Lovell event and there is really nothing new to report. We are all set and everything is GO at this time. We are conscious that for many attending one of the two lectures, this will be their first time at one of Ken's events. We will have added marshalling on hand on the day to insure that things go smoothly. |

It is my understanding that Ken has secured his Apollo astronaut for October 2016 and is closing in on his guest for April next.Such has been the success of the Space Lectures events in recent years especially, there is an increasing number of folks sending payment by BACS in advance of details of our next guest. AFTER we make our announcement for April 2016... which we hope will be very soon, can you please email Ken in the first instance to check for ticket availability BEFORE making payment? The faith in the event is much appreciated but can I ask people to please not send bacs payments for tickets until details (including ticket prices) have been confirmed? The logistics of contacting people for part refunds or extra payments (depending entirely upon the guests fee and consequently the ticket price) are a headache Ken can do without. Hold your horses and all we become clear in due course. |

Any news on whether Brian Cox will do a signing/photo session at the lectures? I have his books that I would like to get signed and I know my wife would love a photo with him. A small donation to the UNICEF charity could benefit from this? |

Professor Cox has kindly agreed to conduct both lecture Q&As for no fee. He is not under any kind of contract with Space Lectures but agreed to become involved because he and his wife are huge Apollo fans.Under such circumstances it would be unreasonable of us to ask Brian to conduct a signing and consequently none is planned. |

The wedding is off! After a bit of hassle with the hotel around room availability for the Lovell event in October, a number have rooms have now become available.Anybody yet to book a room for Friday night, or who has perhaps chosen elsewhere out of necessity, it may be an idea to call Wentbridge and see what is available. |
