Space Lectures and Ken Willoughby are able to confirm some of the details for the first event of 2015! - April 24th; Dinner at the Wentbridge House Hotel with all the usual trimmings i.e. photo shoot, auction and signing.
- April 25th the public lecture at Carleton Community High School complete with prize raffle and a second signing. Timings and ticket prices for both are the same as those for Fred Haise in October.
I eluded to this event some weeks ago on the Fred Haise thread and already 60 lecture tickets and 35 dinner have been sold to date.I did state that I would start a new thread as and when I could name names but at this stage I am unable to do so. But I thought it reasonable to let people know what I could in order to facilitate budgets, holidays, hotel bookings etc asap. The name of the astronaut will be announced at the Fred Haise event in October. To the best of my knowledge this pioneer has not appeared previously in the UK but I can confirm the contract has been signed and the deposit paid already so we are good to go. |

People who have paid for their tickets for the April 2015 event already can collect them in person from Ken following the Fred Haise lecture.Anybody who would like to pay Ken in person for April 2015, by either cash or cheque please, can do so at the Fred Haise event also. Be sure and give Ken your name and address details; for an additional £1 Ken will provide envelopes and postage for mailing out tickets. The Wentbridge is a popular hotel so get your reservations in asap! |

We are already pulling together memorabilia for the April event auction.A great deal of time and effort goes into the planning and organisation to ensure the attendees and the astronaut have a positive experience of the Space Lecture events. |

Tickets for the April 2015 event will be coming from the printers next week.Since Ken Willoughby plans on naming the April 2015 guest at the Fred Haise event in October I'd imagine he will hold off mailing them until the week after Freddo... |

The cat is out of the bag... or should I say Eileen Collins is out the bag.The announcement was very well received and anecdotally, Ken tells me ticket sales for Eileen's lecture are approaching 300! The queue for tickets at Ken's table outside of the theatre, coupled with the 160 tickets already ordered "blind" would support that kind of estimate. More details about the April event will be posted shortly. |

This is great news. I had heard rumours at the dinner about who was being announced and I'm happy to hear the rumours were true. Now I just need to decided on which item or photo I'll be getting signed. |

Having spent a considerable amount of time with Fred over the four days of his visit, Fred's eyes lit up when I told him the next guest would be Eileen Collins.Fred has met Eileen on several occasions and has attended several official engagements with her. He tells me she has some great stories to tell and presents to a very high standard. As Rick has already stated, tickets are selling very very quickly and the dinner is almost sold out. |

Just received this message from shuttle astronaut Clayton Anderson. Don't think I ever met Mr. Haise, but I know (and love!) Commander Eileen Collins. She deserves a packed house... SELLOUT! Who am I to argue?Latest ticket sales for Eileen Collins confirmed by Ken this evening; 280 so far for the lecture and 97 for the dinner.

Are you offering to pay my airfare and accommodations? If so, sure.I've told Ken and Rick that I would be happy to attend a Space Lectures event, if my schedule allows for it. I've heard Eileen talk on a number of occasions, and of course interviewed her for this site a number of times as well. She's a fantastic speaker, so I am sure it will be an equally outstanding event. |

It should be pointed out at at this time the Space Lectures website is down and our resident PC boffin is out of the country on business at the moment. Anybody looking to buy tickets can either mail me directly and I will forward your enquiry to Ken or check out the Space Lectures Twitter account for details. |

Tickets for dinner with Eileen Collins stubbornly refuse to sell out; there are still a few remaining but we suspect that is down to the distraction of the impending festive season. In the mean time, Ken is working to finalize the guest for October 2015 and all being well should be in a position to make an announcement in the next week or two. Watch this space but be aware, priority for October 2015 will be given to those attending the Collins event in April. |

Rick, I am a regular supporter and attendee of Space Lectures and it is with much disappointment that I am unable to attend the Eileen Collins event. Even more regrettable is the latest news that as a non-attender in April, I may also miss the opportunity to come again in October. Does the priority for Collins ticket holders supersede a previous posting stating: quote: Ken has asked that people let him know of their intention to attend October 2015 and he will keep a record of such until he gives the go ahead to send payment.First come best placed will apply even if payment follows later...

It is my undertanding that those attending the Collins event in April, and those who made known to Ken (at the Fred Haise event) their intention to attend in October 2015 will be seated nearer the front of the lecture theatre.Late comers to the October event who did not attend the earlier April 2015 event will naturally be seated nearer the back. In the event October 2015 is a sell out and there are not enough tickets to satisfy the demand then those who attended the Eileen Collins event in April will get priority. |

Further clarification from Ken himself. Can you make it clear to ApolloKev and others that anyone who applies now for Oct. 2015 is certain of a ticket. The ones who attend the EC event will be able to purchase tickets on the night so they too will be certain of one. The ones who apply now or come in April have the best chance because when it is announced the flood gates will open That said, the final ticket prices for October 2015 have to be confirmed but all being well, we should be able to do so very shortly. |

Just a reminder folks that Eillen will not be adding missions, inscriptions or dedications to her signature. With the best will in the world adding such to a potential 450+ items is simply too time consuming. |

We have been discussing possible backdrop photo options for the Eileen Collins photo-shoot in April. It dawned on me that they are some very knowledgeable and talented guys on this forum so I suggested to Ken that we invite cS members to come up with a backdrop design. There are certain criteria we would like designers to adhere to. A dynamic image that captures the excitement of flying shuttle but not too "busy"; a shuttle launch maybe. Ideally one of Eileen's launches. Each of Eileen's mission patches must be represented. The backdrop image should be predominantly light so as to make a good ground for signing, which would suggest a daytime photo and not a night launch. And consideration should be given to the composition; Eileen will be stood somewhere in or around the middle of the backdrop with typically one or two people along side, so the patches and key background imagery and patches should frame the central characters. You can refer to previous Space Lectures threads e.g. Fred Haise, TK and Alan Bean to see the kind of things we have come up with previously. In the event we use a backdrop provided by a cS member we will photogragh Eileen against the ground and post it to the winner, duly signed, courtesy of Space Lectures. So how about it guys? You can mail the designs to me but it would be fun to post them here for others to share, deliberate and discuss. |

I think I could come up with 100+ ideas but in the interest of fairness I'll only suggest one backdrop: A silhouette of the rollout of Discovery, STS-114 "Return to Flight", with mission patches alongside.A problem could be the image is portrait and I assume you would prefer landscape. |

STS-114 launch: 1 or 2 or 3. And lastly Discovery in flight, STS-114.Since these are all NASA images (even the Wiki ones), I could superimpose one or more patch designs on it for you if you wanted them, the reflecting launch image would lend itself well for all the patches across the top. |

I'd me interested to see some mocked up backdrops complete with mission patches. The backdrop would need to be landscape format; the patches to the side of the image might be better under those circumstances and don't forget to allow for the fact that two or more people would be stood in the middle so it might be an idea to avoid shuttles or palm trees sprouting from the tops of heads. |

Might have to use a different launch image than one of her launches is all. Most of what I find in high enough resolution would not meet your criteria.... look for a link later tonight with a rough idea.
