I have seen enough shuttle launch images the last few days to sink a battle ship. Ideally it should be a launch flown by Eileen, but I don't think it would be an issue if it was another mission. Call it artistic license. Just so long as the shuttle is one flown by Eileen at some point, or a shuttle the name of which is indistinct... if that makes sense. I have to confess I am not blessed with the noggin to do the necessary photoshop/montage "magic". |

Very quick just to see if I am heading the right way. It's not her launch, but it's Atlantis which she piloted. |

cycleroadie, that looks excellent. Might I suggest a couple of versions of that? One with the two patches on the left further to the left and closer to the edge. And a second with all four patches in a line on the left, perhaps in ascending chronological order with STS-114 on the top?I think the image is a bit "wide" if I may use a none technical term. The prints on the day are 9x6 if that helps with proportions. |

Nice idea. I was wondering how we might incorporate an on orbit shuttle in the design. That design will be added to the "pot" for consideration.Any more guys? Keep 'em coming. |

Have to agree with Rick - both look great. However, wonder if Dave's might be more artistic if the shuttle was on the left and the patches on the right. |

Another great one Dave. THANK YOU and a definite contender. I like the shuttle where it is personally though I have suggested that Dave reverse the order of the patches with 114 at the top.It could be argued that 114 was the pinnacle of Eileen's shuttle career and in the event of a family or group shot there is a chance an arm, a handbag (probably Eddie's) or a coat may overlap the bottom left patch. But I love it guys. Keep 'em coming. I have suggested to Ken that we put all the proposals to the team and vote on the winner. I will post the winning design here and organise a signed photo of Eileen stood in front of it for the designer compliments of Space Lectures. |

A note of thanks to Professor Brian Cox for tweeting the Collins event last evening. His support is much appreciated and there has been a considerable upsurge in activity on the back of it. Plans for Eileen are moving along apace. I think we will call time of the background debate over the weekend and select the winning design on Sunday... so get your designs in to me or post them here by Saturday evening. |

I'm really looking forward to this event. While it's obviously great to meet Apollo era astronauts it is also good to mix it up, especially for our younger attendees. (Which isn't me!) |

I was fortunate to hear Col. Collins speak at the National Air and Space Museum several years ago. She has an interesting story to tell which you will certainly enjoy. I wish my fellow cS members a memorable evening. |

Ken tells me there are around 10 people who have asked for tickets for the Eileen Collins lecture and a similar number for the dinner who have yet to send payment. With two astronaut encounters to organise prompt payment would be appreciated. Thank you! |

Thank you guys for the terrific response to our impromptu "Design a backdrop for the Eileen Collins event" competition. We received six entries all of which were worthy of serious consideration; even Eddie's (moorouge) master piece in crayon! A number of issues had to be considered, both aesthetic and technical but the winning design by a majority vote was courtesy of Lloyd (cycleroadie)! Some of you may think Eileen looks a tad older that you remembered and she needs to do something with her hair! Rest assured this is a mock up. The image is lighter than Lloyd's original, in part because the finished backdrop will appear darker in print than it appears on your computer screen. Lloyd will receive a signed portrait photo of Eileen in front of his backdrop in due course with the appreciation of Space Lectures. But the response was such that we would like to repeat the process and invite backdrop designs for our Apollo guest planned for October. More on that soon. |

Like the selection. Just note Rick that if I bring my usual green handbag it won't show on the finished print anyway. Also, I'm disappointed that my crayon sketch of the back of your head wasn't selected, especially as that's the view that most of those attending will have of Eileen during the lecture. |

Thanks for picking me! All great images put up by everyone, I am humbled. Rick if you need me to tweak the pic at all, lighten it, darken it, whatever, I do photography as a hobby, so I have a few software packages and can probably get it as you need. |

Ken tells me that 19 people have asked for lecture tickets but have yet to send payment. Can I please ask that should any of the 19 include cS members that they do so asap.Remember, until payment is complete, theatre seats will NOT be allocated. The later you leave it, the further back you will be sat. |

I have only just noticed that yesterday was the 20th anniversary of STS-63 in which Eileen Collins became the first female to pilot the space shuttle.Time is ticking by and it is now only a matter of weeks till the Eileen Collins event at Space Lectures takes place. Tickets are now in limited supply so contact Ken to avoid disappointment. |

Interestingly, on the back of a terrific response to the James Lovell announcement, ticket sales for Eileen Collins are picking up apace. Some "regulars" who have contacted Ken in the last day or so expecting to pay for Lovell combo tickets are dissapointed to discover the dinner is sold out and combo tickets all gone. We can only apologise but I have been banging on about October and "a leap of faith" for weeks. Please take note the next time something similar is posted. Don't make the same mistake with the Eileen Collins event in April. About 3 dinner tickets are left and the lecture tickets are accelerating too. As we get closer to these events ticket sales naturally pick up so please don't leave ordering tickets for Eileen Collins to the last minute. |

Tickets for Capt Lovell may have now SOLD OUT but we still have tickets left for Eileen Collins; 2 for the dinner and a handful for the lecture. On the back of the interest generated by Capt. Lovell, and the hits on the Space Lecures website they too are moving along nicely. A casual approach to ordering tickets for October has left some disappointed. Please don't make the same mistake with Eileen's event. |

Another 42 lecture tickets sold for the Eileen Collins event this week. Don't forget ladies and gentlemen, the £40 Collins ticket is all you pay for the lecture plus one signature. No entrance fee. And only £20 for a photo with the lady too. |

Thank you James. The value factor stacks up very favourably particularly when you take in to account entrance, autograph and lecture fees, (not to mention the cost of photo shoots) at other events. The dinner with Eileen stubbornly refuses to sell out; Ken has had 2 tickets left for the last month or so. Get them while you can or they WILL go! Inevitably, as we get closer to April there will be some "I didn't know anything about it" last minute ticket purchases. Eileen is givng motivational talks to 3 girls schools over two days (Thursday and Friday). Typically the kids tell their parents who in turn bombard Ken for information and tickets. That's what happened with Alan Bean. |

It seems like only yesterday that Ken Willoughby told me he had booked Eileen Collins. In reality it was 6 months ago... but with the event only a month away it will soon be upon us. |

I have a £60 dinner ticket to this event on Friday 24th April but now find I am unfortunately unable to attend. I also have reserved a single room at the Wentbridge House Hotel at a cost of (£85) for the Friday night which I have not paid for.If anybody on this forum is interested in the dinner ticket for £50 and taking over the hotel reservation, which I will organise, then please email me. |
