Ladies and gentlemen, Ken Willoughby and Space Lectures are pleased to announce their next event.A little earlier than originally planned; October 24th and 25th of this year will see Apollo 13 Lunar Module Pilot and Shuttle Enterprise Commander Fred Haise in Pontefract. Hot on the heels of one time Apollo 13 crewmate T.K. Mattingly, the good news is tickets have been keenly priced at £40 for the lecture and £60 for the dinner; £90 for a combo ticket. To put that in to perspective: the dinner, the lecture and two signatures... for a little more than his base Spacefest signature fee. The locations and timings remain the same; Wentbridge House Hotel for the meal on Friday evening and Carleton Community High School for the public lecture the next day. Once again each ticket will entitle its holder to one free signature (two with a combo ticket) and photo shoots are available at both venues for a mere £20 per photo regardless of how many people are in the picture. Photos will include a card mount. There will be a selection of quality merchandise available at both venues. Seats for the public lecture are numbered and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. The sooner payment is sent to Ken, the nearer the front you will be seated. I think everybody that attended the Mattingly event in April and Alan Bean and Al Worden the previous year would agree that Space Lectures' events are quite unique and every effort is made ensure that each is slicker, more enjoyable and more successful than the last. So it will remain. It is becoming passé to say these guys won't be with us much longer; to make the most of every opportunity to meet them that comes your way. Need I say more? |

Does this mean Fred Haise's appearance is confirmed and definitive? Reason I'm asking is, can I go ahead and book a flight already? |

That might be an idea Nigel. Two days in and already 120 lecture tickets and 39 for the dinner; and I thought Mattingly was popular! |

I think the keener price, coupled with the amiable nature of Fred Haise is proving an irresistable attraction. A third of the lecture tickets and more than half for the dinner have now sold. |

The ticket sales are going incredibly well and Ken has a smile on his face.Just to echo Rick's views, Fred is a very gracious man who enjoys relaying his fantastic story to the public. He is very generous with his time both in the photo shoots and signings. I am sure both events will be enjoyed by all. |

Can I ask what happens at the meal please? Is there also a lecture/talk? If yes, is it different from the public lecture? |

Each astronaut guest is different. They don't give a lecture in the same sense that they do at the school the following day, but each usually speaks for 5 minutes or 10 minutes about a particular flight or their career.... or in the case of Al Worden, his love of England after being stationed here in the 60s. Both Al Bean and Al Worden spoke before the dinner; TK spoke afterwards Numbers are such that the atmosphere is much more relaxed and there will be opportunities to chat with Fred during the photo shoot and again after the dinner. The signing too should be less frantic with the opportunities that will afford. But it is not just about the autographs or the auction. The dinner is a great social gathering where like minded friends meet and enjoy each others company; Freddo is just the icing on the cake. |

Robert, if you have booked your hotel, but not yet sent payment for your tickets can I suggest you do so asap? At the current rate of sale you may have a terrific room... but no tickets for the event. |

90 of the 130 dinner tickets now sold with a handful of others on hold for friends and cS members travelling from Europe who are sorting travel arrangements. At the current rate of sale the dinner will be sold out in a week... possibly sooner. And remember, the sooner people book their tickets for the lecture the nearer the front they will be seated; seats are allocated in the order in which Ken receives an order. Ticket orders received from today will be in the rear half of the theatre; from Monday probably the last 6 or 7 rows. |

Nice one Robert. It will be good to see you again. And just as well that you have sent that cheque. Ken has just told me he expects the dinner to be sold out by Friday!!! Around 10 tickets remain and there are cheques in the post for a few of those already. |

I understand from Ken that some folk have asked him to hold on to dinner tickets so they can pay him on the night.Such has been the demand for the dinner, he does not want to risk holding onto tickets under those circumstances and risk a no-show or last minute cancellation. To any cS member under the impression that they can pay Ken on the night of the dinner please be advised Ken will hold your dinner ticket only until Sunday June 8th... after which time they will be sold on a first come first served basis. The tickets for Fred are cheaper than TK because his fee is smaller, but to make the event pay for itself all of the tickets must sell. Any shortfall could potentially leave Ken personally out of pocket and less inclined to organise future events. |

Best selling author, journalist and broadcaster Andrew Smith will be attending both the Fred Haise dinner and the lecture. I've met Andrew previously and he is a good guy to hang out with. There are no formal plans for any kind of signing by Andrew but should people have copies of his book Moondust I am sure he would not object if asked. |

Well, getting to meet Andrew Smith just made this even better! His book, "Moondust", is the reason that I started reading every space biography/autobiography that I could get my hands on. Still lots to go though. |

In case anybody missed it, take a peak at my post regarding Gene Cernan at the Sheffield film festival last weekend. There are going to be some very nice, ney exclusive and different items up for auction following the Fred Haise dinner. Please be advised that the signed Cernan movie poster is so nice and so rare that in all liklihood there will for the first time, be a reserved on that piece. |

Thank you for the suggestion Andrew regarding posting images of the auction items. Most will be framed nearer the event so I hope to post a few tempter photos then. We could stick a few pictures up now but when framed they look great and we would like to unveil them with all the "Wow factor" they deserve. |

Four months out. All dinner tickets sold and 350 lecture tickets; better than for any astronaut to date. |
