Enough. That said, Spaceflight magazine ran an advertisement and will run another in the June edition due out in May so fingers crossed. |

Once Prof. Cox had "Tweeted" I really thought we'd be overwhelmed with requests for tickets? |

In the week that followed Professor Cox's Tweet Ken sold more tickets than any week before or since.Professor Cox has promised further tweets and I am sending him regular weekly updates. |

Ken would like to express his appreciation for everybody's good wishes. He mailed me as follows; "You can you tell everybody I have no plans to go anywhere until after Barcelona meet Celtic in the Champions League Final - whenever that might be" Now for our cousins in the old colony, not familiar with FOOTBALL... (not "soccer") that particular fixture is about as likely as man landing on the surface of the Sun! And there is no truth in the rumour that Steve Proctor is planning such a landing at night... |

Night definitely the best time to go. It's a well known fact that dark travels faster than light so your trip will be that much quicker. ![](http://www.collectspace.com/ubb/smile.gif) |

Professor Brian Cox has kindly lent his support to the Harrison Schmitt event by once again Tweeting about it.One or two "knobbers" (to use a Brian Cox term) have questioned the ticket and photo prices and I have Tweeted back with relevant detail as to how the ticket prices are arrived at. I think some people live in cloud cuckoo land where astronauts travel the world on gossamer clouds free of charge, signing thousands of pictures for free and give away bits of moon rock at the drop of a hat. Wake up to the real world BOZOS! There is no such thing as a free lunch... or a free dinner with Harrison Schmitt! |

A friend at work told me today that he seen something 'on TV' (he was that vague) over the weekend about 'inventions that never quite made it' (his words, again) and I finally worked out that it was a program that featured our Mr. Schmitt and his idea to mine Helium-3 on the moon and his need to obtain funding for the project. Please can I ask if any of you have any idea what it could have been? |

I have heard thru the grapevine that Jim Lovell will be coming over next year if the Schmitt event goes ahead. Has anyone else heard this? |

I have heard nothing like that at all. However, you may not be aware that earlier in the year Ken W. had arranged for Walt Cunningham to visit. Things were progressing, albeit on the slow side, when news of Schmitt's visit broke. My impression was that attention seemed to be transferred to his potential visit and Walt Cunningham fell into the shadows. That event, very disappointingly, failed to materialise for a variety of reasons. My personal opinion, and in no way critical of your innocent post, is that we all stick with the subject of Harrison Schmitt until it is a definite goer. I don't mean to sound negative, and I'm a very small voice on this forum, but I would hate to see a repeat of events earlier in the year. I may encounter a bit of flak for my feelings but would rather just wait until June before we focus on other, future, visiting astronauts. |

I think I've sort of asked this question before? Sorry but I'm going to ask again as I don't think a definite answer was given. As the cheque dates are June 1st, does this also mean that this is the "cut-off" date when we will know if the event is viable or not? I ask this question because frankly I feel it is a little unfair on everyone, including Ken to be worrying until "late in the day" if this going to go ahead. |

It is my understanding that if Ken has received enough cheques by June 1st to fund the event, he will give the go, on or about that date and then bank the cheques and pay Dr Schmitt half his fee.If he does not get enough cheques by that date then the event will not proceed. |

Professor Brian Cox hopes to attend one of the Schmitt lectures but it will depend upon a planned filming trip to Australia that same month. If he can make it he has agreed to introduce Dr. Schmitt, hopefully conduct a Q&A session with Dr. Schmitt and mingle with guests before and after. |

Are tickets still available? Don't have a cheque though does anyone still use them?In the absence of a cheque how can you pay for tickets? Does anyone know how many tickets have been sold My Open University geology tutor has had an invite to this event so I think the word is out! Thank you. |

The Harrison Schmitt event is certainly bringing people from far and wide. The latest from Ken is there are..." people coming from Norway, Netherlands, France, C/Republic, USA, Ireland and even Lancashire!" 50% of the tickets sold so far are to first timers who have not previously attended one of Ken's events. Ken has also tapped in to some new publicity streams which should help raise the profile of the event still further. |

Just as soon as Ken gives me further updates I will post them here whatever date that may be.But IMHO, if we don't have a definitive answer on Friday that would make a positive outcome more likely, not less so. Ken will cancel on Friday if there is no hope of the event proceeding. |

I have mentioned the issue of "cheques" before. Could we not have a system were you can pay by PayPal and pay the fee charged to the other party 3-5%? The fee would only be a few pounds and would be cheaper than messing about with the Royal snail Mail. This may also increase the number of people who could attend — I don't have cheques DD SO or debit card only... This seems a much easier way of collecting money and much easier to refund if the need arises. In the absence of a "cheque" how can you pay? Don't know if this an issue for others? I haven't misses too many of these and this a great opportunity and certainly represents great value for money! |

It is a simple process to pay by PayPal and accept the transaction charges rather than pass them on. When choosing to Send Money select the second tab which will show the option of a personal payment, along with others. By ticking this the sender will pay the fees and not the receiver.I guess Ken has his own reasons for not wanting to use PayPal. |

Ken has had a less than satisfactory experience with PayPal. If anybody without a cheque book would like to mail him directly he can offer an alternative payment method. In this day and age of electronic payment options I can understand the frustration and I am an old fart who has a cheque book and has never made a withdrawal from a cash machine! But at the end of the day, if you want to be there you will find a way. I don't see anybody else bringing Harrison Schmitt over to this side of the pond. Where there's a will there's a way. One final point, Moonpans recently offered three signed Harrison Schmitt photos for sale at $599 a pop. They sold out immediately. Makes three book signatures plus a lecture for $90 look like pretty good value to me. |
